How student exchange works

• Spend 1 or 2 semesters of your

undergraduate degree at a partner

university.

• Select classes which are compatible with

your Strathclyde classes.

• Take your exams at the partner university

• Receive academic credit for the exams you

pass which is transferred back to Strathclyde.

• Return to Strathclyde to complete your

degree.

• Study abroad is not intended to affect the

duration of your Strathclyde degree.

Eligibility

• Provisional academic approval at application stage

• Final academic approval based on May 2013 exams.

• Each Faculty/Department sets it own minimum

academic standard for final approval. Check with

them.

• In addition, you need to be adaptable, resourceful

and willing to embrace change.

• It won’t be the same as at Strathclyde!

Costs (estimate)

• Tuition fees continue to be paid to Strathclyde. No

tuition payable at host University.

• Estimate cost of £4000 per semester

– Flights £700

– Visa application and fee £150 (personal appointment

in Belfast/London for US placements)

– Accommodation and meals £2,500

– Medical Insurance £400

– Books £250

Funding

• Evidence of funding may be required as early as mid February.

• Self-fund through student loan, personal savings.

• Scholarships/travel grants

– Alumni Fund Travel Scholarships £500

– Butex Travel Scholarship £500

– External scholarships e.g. IMechE

Duration of exchange

• USA, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore

– 1 or 2 semesters

– S1 begins mid/end August or early September and

ends in December.

– S2 begins early January

– Students going for one semester would go in S1.
