Sisters and Brothers,
On the Inside out-of-work list
we have 19 on Book 1, 85 on
Book 2, 15 on Book 3, and 5
on Book 4. There are 2 on
CW Book 1 and 128 on CW
Book 2. There are 6
apprentices on the out-of-
work list.
February is the shortest and
coldest month of the year. It
is also a busy month with
National Freedom Day,
Groundhog Day, Super Bowl,
Valentine's Day, President's
Day, and Mardi Gras.
February is also Black History
Month. Black History Month
is an annual celebration of
achievements by black Americans and a time for
recognizing the central role of African Americans in US
history.
For our Inside members, the Health & Welfare Plan has
implemented a wellness program for active Inside
members and their spouses in 2017 (this does not
apply to dependents, Retirees, S&C, or CWs). This
program focuses on preventing chronic diseases and
illness before they occur. Preventive care can
significantly reduce healthcare costs, prolong life
expectancy, and increase the quality of life. If you
choose to participate, the Health & Welfare Plan will add
$250 to your Health Reimbursement Account (Benny
card) balance. If both the member and spouse
participate they will each receive $250, up to $500 total.
Inside members only have to do two things in order to
earn $250 on a Benny card. Complete an online Health
Questionnaire by November 30, 2017 at
www.moverewellness.com. Then complete a
screening with your physician by November 30, 2017.
The form is located on Page 2 of this newsletter. Once
you have your results, send to HMC Movere to be
uploaded to your wellness account:
Fax to: 1-844-707-0217
Email to: [email protected]
US Mail to: HMC Movere, 935 E. North Union Ave,
Building D, Ste. 203 Midvale, UT 84047
If you chose NOT to participate, or only one of the two
eligible (husband and wife) completes the process, then
your deductible will go from $100 to $500 per person in
2018. For example, if my wife decides not to complete a
health screening, then even though I completed it and
received the $250, our family deductible will go from
$400 for the four of us to $2,000 starting in 2018. This
does not apply to Retirees. Retiree rates will not be
affected.
Remember Valentine’s Day is on Tuesday, February
14th.
The third Monday, February 20th, is a Holiday for the
Inside, S&C, and CECWs. It is President’s Day, originally
established in 1885 in recognition of George Washington.
It was traditionally celebrated on February 22nd,
Washington’s actual day of birth. The holiday became
popularly known as Presidents’ Day after it was moved as
part of 1971’s Uniform Monday Holiday Act. The Act was
an attempt to create more three-day weekends for
workers. While several states still have individual holidays
honoring the birthdays of Washington, Abraham Lincoln
and other figures, Presidents’ Day is now viewed as a day
to celebrate all US presidents past and present.
Wednesday, March 1st is the Charter anniversary of
Local 234. Local 234 was chartered on March 1, 1970.
Local 234 will celebrate it’s 47th anniversary. Our
President, Mike Ihnot, did some interesting research on
the origin and history of our Local number. I’ll share it in
a future newsletter.

year the officers of the IBEW are pleased to offer its working members scholarships on a
competitive basis. It is hoped that the awards will not only contribute to the personal
development of our members but also steward the electrical industry that our founders
envisioned. This award is for $200 per semester credit hour at any accredited college or
university toward an associate’s, bachelor’s or postgraduate degree in a field that will further
the electrical industry overall (as determined by the Founders’ Scholarship Administrator).
The maximum distribution is $24,000 per person over a period not to exceed eight years.

Our LMCC incentivizes members to take classes. Members have an opportunity to win two
$100 gift cards. Two gift cards are awarded quarterly. The first $100 gift card is awarded to
the member that satisfies the most hours of upgrade classes in the quarter (i.e., October,
November, December). The second $100 gift card is awarded via a give-away. For every
four hours of training completed, members will receive an entry in the give-away; there is no
limit to the number of entries. The person who is recognized with the most hours and wins
the first $100 gift card is not eligible for the give-away. Classes must be successfully
completed for members to earn entries in the give-away.
In addition, the LMCC already pays a $125 stipend to all members that successfully complete
either CALCTP, CALCTP-AT, or EVITP 3.0.
The Monterey Bay LMCC is providing all gift cards and stipends.
