What is to be Learned
• The need for technology• Student benefits from technology• School benefits from technology• Four key components of learning• Overcoming the fear of technology• Technology tool examples
![Page 3: Integrating technology in the classroom1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081512/558d5434d8b42a87338b4688/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
The Need for Technology
Technology has revolutionized the way we think, work, and play. It revolutionizes the learning process. Studies have shown that when integrating technology in the classroom, learning improves within students.
![Page 4: Integrating technology in the classroom1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081512/558d5434d8b42a87338b4688/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
More Reasons
Another reason for technology integration is for today’s students to have 21st century skills:• Personal and Social Responsibility• Planning, Critical Thinking, Reasoning, and Creativity• Strong Communication Skills• Visualizing and Decision Making• Knowing how and when to use technology and choosing
the most appropriate tool for the task
![Page 5: Integrating technology in the classroom1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081512/558d5434d8b42a87338b4688/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)

Student Benefits
• Improves learning• Engage more in learning• Promotes problem solving skills• Take responsibility for their learning outcomes
![Page 7: Integrating technology in the classroom1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081512/558d5434d8b42a87338b4688/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Studies have
shown when
comparing
learning in a
traditional
framework to a
computer mediated
learning
framework….
![Page 8: Integrating technology in the classroom1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081512/558d5434d8b42a87338b4688/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
…students have expressed higher satisfaction from the computer mediated learning and rated the learning as more effective than in the traditional framework.
![Page 9: Integrating technology in the classroom1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081512/558d5434d8b42a87338b4688/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
• E-learning includes advantages that are not found in traditional learning such as:
Time for digesting information and responding
Enhanced communication among learners
The ability to conduct an open discussion
Higher motivation and involvement among learners
![Page 10: Integrating technology in the classroom1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081512/558d5434d8b42a87338b4688/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
School Benefits
• If the school integrated more technology such as digital textbooks, how does that benefit the school?
![Page 11: Integrating technology in the classroom1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081512/558d5434d8b42a87338b4688/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Reasons
• Archbishop Stepinac High School (White Plains) mentions if textbooks are $90 a piece and you have 6 subjects, than you’re almost at $600.
• By buying an iPad mini or Galaxy, it will cost around $399 which will be cheaper than buying traditional textbooks.
![Page 12: Integrating technology in the classroom1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081512/558d5434d8b42a87338b4688/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
More Reasons
• Can prevent students from carrying a lot of textbooks around in their backpack
• Easily accessible• Prepares students for life after high school as more
colleges and universities are increasingly going digital
![Page 13: Integrating technology in the classroom1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081512/558d5434d8b42a87338b4688/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
4 Key Components of Learning
![Page 14: Integrating technology in the classroom1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081512/558d5434d8b42a87338b4688/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
Active Engagement
• Better student attitudes• Improvement in thinking and writing• Motivation to study• Long-term learning skills
![Page 15: Integrating technology in the classroom1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081512/558d5434d8b42a87338b4688/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Example of Active Engagement
• Practice journal or blog writing to communicate with students
![Page 16: Integrating technology in the classroom1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081512/558d5434d8b42a87338b4688/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
Participation in Groups
• Develops task management skills• Allows the opportunity for different people to come
together to create something greater than each member could achieve alone
![Page 17: Integrating technology in the classroom1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081512/558d5434d8b42a87338b4688/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
Example of Participation in Groups
• Group computer activities that allows participants to practice team building skills
![Page 18: Integrating technology in the classroom1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081512/558d5434d8b42a87338b4688/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
Frequent Interaction
• The definition of interaction is “the activity of being with and talking to other people, and the way that people react to each other.”-Macmillian Dictionary
![Page 19: Integrating technology in the classroom1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081512/558d5434d8b42a87338b4688/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
Example of Frequent Interaction
• Interactive whiteboards are relatively new with instructional technology.
• These whiteboards are now taking the place of chalkboards and dry erase boards.
• Studies have shown that using interactive whiteboards have increased student achievement.
![Page 20: Integrating technology in the classroom1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081512/558d5434d8b42a87338b4688/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
Connection to Real World Experts
• Complete an assignment other than the reason that it will be graded.
• Embed multi-media in a rich context in which students can will learn and practice skills
• Gather and present information• Solve problems
![Page 21: Integrating technology in the classroom1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081512/558d5434d8b42a87338b4688/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
Example of Connection to Real World Experts
• Connecting through student interests• Connecting through student experiences• Connecting through significant issues
![Page 22: Integrating technology in the classroom1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081512/558d5434d8b42a87338b4688/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
Overcoming the Fear of Technology
![Page 23: Integrating technology in the classroom1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081512/558d5434d8b42a87338b4688/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
3 Major Reasons
• Inadequate professional development• Lack of technical support• Few computers
![Page 24: Integrating technology in the classroom1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081512/558d5434d8b42a87338b4688/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
Teachers fear of learning something new is one of the hurdles of integrating technology in the classroom.• Meet in small group professional-learning
communities• Set aside time for teachers to look at other teachers
use technology• Start with small, fast projects that enhances learning
![Page 25: Integrating technology in the classroom1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081512/558d5434d8b42a87338b4688/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
