HOW SCREENING IS DONEBY- KARGIL SINGH
Conduct of Test
The Stage I of the Selection System consists of the following :-
(a) Intelligence Tests. It comprises of two tests of 50 questions each. The
candidates are given 30 minutes for each test. Based on the score of the candidate,
OIR (OVER ALL INTELIGENCE RATING ) grading from 1 to 5 (with 1 being the
highest and 5 the lowest) is given to each candidate.
(b) PP &DT . It is a simple test of observation and perception in which a
picture depicting certain situations is shown to the candidates. The picture is shown
for 30 seconds and thereafter the candidate gets 1 minute to record the following :-
(i) What and where did he/she see in the picture.
(ii) Encircle the figure seen first and give details of the following :-(aa) Male/Female/Person(ab) Age in years
(ac) Mood of the person
(ad) What are they doing (Action)
Thereafter, the candidates write a story around the persons and the situations shown inthe picture. They are given 4 min to write this story of around 100 words in which the
thoughts, feelings and actions of the characters have to be mentioned. The story
should cover the following :-
(i) What led to the situation presented in the picture ?(ii) What is presently going on ?
(iii) What the outcome will be ?
(c) Group Discussion. In this, the candidates are divided in groups of 10 to 15.
A mixed group of freshers and repeaters are avoided. The GTO in the assessors team
acts as a facilitator / moderator to prompt volunteers and encourage non-participants.The discussions normally take around 20 minutes and candidates are asked to share
their observations and arrive at a consensus as to :-
(i) Characters involved their ages and their moods.
(ii) Happenings in the picture and situation being faced.
(iii) Actions taken by the characters.
(iv) What is likely to happen?
Conduct of Assessment
Assessors team. During Stage I, an assessors team comprises of an IO, Psych and
GTO who assess the candidates during Group Discussion. An assessor jots down his

observations and decisions on a candidate of Stage I on the jotting sheet and marks the
following observations in respect of the candidate :-
(a) Recommended (Yes) - Y
(b) Doubtful - D
(c) Not Recommended (No) - N
11. Mini Conference and Result. On completion of group discussion, a mini
conference among all three assessors is held for recommending / not recommending
candidates for Stage II. The recommendations subject to the OIR grading are as follows {R=

(a) OIR I candidates Any combination less N,N,N R
(b) OIR II candidates Any combination less N,N,N R
(c) OIR III candidates Any combination less N,N,N R
(d) OIR IVcandidates Minimum D,D,D, or any combination }
