The Interview Judging Contest is a NEW opportunity, for young people to prac-
tice real-life career preparation skills. This program is created in partnership
with Trusted Choice Insurance. The contest involves a set of fictitious job de-
scriptions that the members use to prepare for the process of applying and in-
terviewing for a position.
A Regional Interview Judging Contest will be held along with the Regional Pub-
lic Speaking Contest on May 22nd held at the Lifelong Learning Center
Prior to the contest, contestants will submit a cover letter and résumé written for
one of three job descriptions: Pet Shop Assistant, Teaching Assistant, or
Insurance Intern. On the day of the contest, participants will complete a written
job application and an interview. Youth are encouraged to highlight their 4-H
experience in all aspects of the contest. 4-H members age 10 and older before
January 1, 2014 are eligible to enter this contest. Winners of the Regional con-
tests will advance to State Fair where they will each receive $50. Registration
material, rules, and contest resources can be found at:

Register for Summer 2014 4-H Camps The 2014 Summer Season is approaching fast! We are thrilled to invite all youth to
enjoy summer camp with the Nebraska 4-H Camps and Centers at any of our sites – Gretna, Halsey, and Destination camps.
The summer programs offered at our 4-H camping locations provide all
youth a place to discover, learn, and grow. Also, your child does not
have to be a member of 4-H to attend. At the Nebraska 4-H Camps and
Centers, we believe strongly in promoting the mission of Nebraska 4-H,
which encourages all young people to reach their full potential, by work-
ing and learning in partnership with caring adults. Amidst the beauty of
the Nebraska National Forest and prairie, we are able to do what we do
best: provide a life-changing summer camp experience for all youth!
4-H is education for life and focuses on helping young people explore the science in
their everyday lives, grow leadership and citizenship skills, explore future career
opportunities, and make healthier decisions.

The annual Nebraska Youth Range Camp will be held June 9 – 13, 2014 at the Nebraska State 4-H Camp in Halsey! They are looking for students between the ages of 14 – 18 that are interested in learning more about natural resource management.
The Nebraska Youth Range Camp consists of a four-and-a-half day dynamic curriculum that appeals to students with a wide array of interests including, but not limited to, rangeland management, conservation, ecology, animal science, and wildlife. With nearly 50 years to perfect and evolve this curriculum, every student, no matter what prior experience they have, will learn substantial information that will help them become more aware of Nebraska’s most prevalent land use; rangelands.
The students that attend this camp will be actively involved with field activities, lectures, hand-on experience, and recreational leadership and team-building activities that are all led by up to 20 of Nebraska’s most respected and dedicated leaders, teach-ers, and professionals from various agencies, colleges, and universities. Each student will be sent home with a binder that is filled with educational materials.
Financial sponsorship is available! Every student that attended last year received a substantial level of sponsorship. Interested individuals can find more information, the Range Camp application, and the brochure by visiting the Nebraska Society for Range Management website at www.nesrm.org and then clicking on the Nebraska Youth Range Camp link on the left of the page. Please direct questions to Shelly Taylor at [email protected].

*NEW* State Fair 4-H Foods Event Take your healthy decision making skills to the next level! Combine nutrition, food preparation, and food safety into one contest by taking part in the State Fair 4-H Foods Event! The event will happen on Saturday, August 23 during the Nebraska State Fair.
Get together a team of two, choose a theme, design a tablescape, create a menu, prepare one food item (and bring it to the contest), and present it all to a judge. Here’s the catch: you have to incorporate the challenge ingredient (for 2014 it will be CORN) into your menu and use technology to present to the judge. If you think you’re up for the challenge, contact us at the Extension Office to find out how you can be part of the State Fair 4-H Foods Event!
Don’t forget that you can use art projects made at school for exhibits.
Check to see where they fit in.

As you are planting your seeds please keep track of your variety names. These are
needed when you enter your fair entries. This can be done a couple of ways:
1) save seed packets
2) write your variety information in your manual
3) create a gardening journal.
