ROMMarch 2013
Independent Project
Pencil drawing I 8” x 10”
Inspired by the Fall 2012 Drawing
Assignment from ARCH 250 displayed in
the MacDonald Harrington Building,
I decided to put my own modern twist on
the concept of a building and its context.
The ROM is a vibrantly modern addition to
a historic, monumental building. I chose
to display this by depicting the addition
in the stone, which represents the historic
piece of the composition.
Although such a modern addition
protruding from the stone should seem
out of context here, it does not due to
our preexisting understanding of the
ROM’s historic beauty, emphasized by
its dramatic addition.
