Hans van Luijk joined Shell in 1968 and retired in 2001. He is achemical engineer from Groningen University and he started hiscareer as a process engineer in the Manufacturing Function, i.e.Refining and Gas processing, LNG, coal gasification and hydrocarbonsynthesis plants. He held many technical (initially) and managerial(later in his career) jobs in the field of Downstream Oil and Gasworldwide, ranging from startup engineer in Kenya, DominicanRepublic and Australia to General Manager in Kenya (again) and ShellPernis.He was the founder and first President of Shell Global Solutions till1998. His last position in Shell was President Oil Products of theRegion Latin America and Africa and a member of the executivecouncil for the downstream business worldwide. He retired from Shellin 2001. He then joined the Technical University of Delft as President of theExecutive Board. In his tenure the Federation of the three technicaluniversities in the Netherlands was established.He retired from the TU Delft in 2008 and became a member of theCouncil of Energy Transition, established by several Ministries, inwhich he was chairman of the Platform for Chain Efficiency. Since 2006 he is the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the N.V.NederlandseGasunie.
