A common type of grating is the Type R pressed grating.
Besides traditional walkway applications, this type
is particularly suitable for use in utility buildings as
façade cladding, sun shading, balcony fencing or
partition walls.
the type R pressed grating is constructed from bearing
bars into which transverse bars (10 x 2 mm) are pressed.
the grating panel is finished with a profiled thielco frame
strip and then undergoes hot-dip galvanizing in-house.
Pressed gratings can be produced up to a bearing bar
length of 3,000 mm and a transverse bar length of
1,750 mm.
Anti-slip serrations
For situations with an increased risk of slipping, panels
with anti-slip serrations are available. Because both the
bearing and/or transverse bars are serrated, an extremely
high degree of grip is achieved on the grating surface
(single anti-slip with serration on the bearing or transverse
bars, double anti-slip with serration on both the bearing
and transverse bars).

The SP type grating is constructed from bearing bars
and forged transverse bars. during the production
process, the transverse bars are welded to the bearing
bars at every joint under high pressure and current.
A mesh width of 34 x 38 mm with approximately 800
welded joints per m2 gives the grating high stability and
load-bearing capacity. this type is ideally suited for heavy
to extremely heavy loads.

Gratings exposed to pollutants such
as oil, grease, snow or ice are available
in anti-slip versions. Small moon-
shaped serrations are made in the

contact between foot and grating.

Type SP Ball Proof safety grating
For special safety regulations, thielco
supplies so-called Ball Proof gratings
made to measure. For personal safety in
the offshore and petrochemical industry
it is a general safety requirement that
objects of 15 mm or larger should be

Safety is guaranteed by welding an extra

The corrugated bar grating is often used in the petro-
chemicals and offshore industry. This type of grating is
standard for well-known companies such as ShEll and
AKZo nobel. it is used for walkways but also for
structures that are subject to extremely heavy loads,
for example as a result of heavy traffic.
the type A grating is constructed from bearing bars with a
centre-to-centre spacing of 38 mm for a thickness of 3 mm
or centre-to-centre spacing of 40 mm for a thickness of
5 mm. the corrugated bars are connected to the bearing
bars with a spot-weld joint.

For some applications where an open grating is not
desirable and anti-slip is required, the use of a
perforated grating is a better option. The treads and
platforms are manufactured in 3 mm thick steel plate.
Perforated treads for outdoor use are characterized by
upwardly punched flat holes to provide anti-slip and water
drainage (type tP 350w and tP 340w).
Perforated treads for indoor use are characterized by
upwardly punched holes to provide anti-slip (type tP 350)
or flat holes with or without rubber plugs (type tP 350 D).
these treads are available as (not galvanized) welded
treads without end plates and as galvanized treads with
end plates for mounting between the stair stringers. Special
end plates are available on request. it is also possible to use
these treads for spiral stairs in every desirable form.

products but also galvanizes all kinds of products for
third parties, such as the steel construction industry,
the fencing industry, the trailer and semi-trailer
construction industry, machine building industry, etc.

This service has seen rapid growth in recent years.
hot-dip galvanizing
hot dip galvanizing products guarantees maximum
protection against corrosion. Maximum resistance to
mechanical loading is achieved by alloying the zinc with
the steel.
hot dip galvanizing is a dipping process in which fluid zinc
must penetrate all recesses, open and hollow components
and constructions. in order to achieve this, it is important
that there is sufficient flow into and out of openings to
permit de-aeration and through flow. these openings
need to be properly located and be large enough not to
inhibit the flow. the protective layer applied by hot dip
galvanizing is thicker than other protective layers. to hot

dip galvanize hinged sections, depending upon the
thickness of the material, it may be necessary to leave
1 to 3 mm free.
Sufficiently large openings increase the flow of the fluid
zinc into and out of the construction or components and
increase the dipping speed. this prevents deformation and
enhances the quality of the zinc layer. After galvanizing,
the holes are sealed with aluminium, lead or plastic plugs.

it is increasingly common for hot dip galvanized
materials to be given an additional organic layer
(powder coating). Architects, product designers and
advisers are continually in search of decorative colour
applications for steel. hot dip galvanizing and powder
coating with one or two layers makes an interesting
range of decorative and colourful applications
possible. it is even possible to powder-coat two layers
in a single procedure.
the complete process of surface treatment takes place
in-house, making thielco a reliable and expert partner in
surface treatments. thielco is able to pre-treat products
chemically and mechanically. the process is
environmentally-friendly due to the use of a modern
chrome-free polymer technology. Products up to 10,000 x
600 x 2,400 mm can be chemically or mechanically pre-
treated. we recommend applying a two-layer system to
the products after galvanizing. the first layer is an epoxy
primer, the second is the colour (polyester powder). the
total layer thickness is approximately 120 microns. thielco
works in accordance with the Visem quality requirements.

Thielco has ceramic high temperature zinc ovens.
These are particularly suitable for hot dip galvanizing
of a whole variety of smaller fastening materials, such
as bolts (from m8), nuts, clips, clamps, wire nails,
threaded rods and anchors. This procedure also serves
various markets. you will find fastenings which have
been treated by Thielco not only in steel construction
and machine building, but also in the wind turbine
industry and in the automotive and energy sectors.
various qualities of steel are possible. Thielco
specialises in grades 8.8 and 10.9 among others.
Thanks to a chemical/mechanical pre-treatment and
control over the galvanizing process, there is no
danger of hydrogen brittleness.
After galvanizing the products, surplus zinc is removed by
a centrifugal process, giving a smooth and even zinc layer.
the thread in nuts and tapped holes must be tapped
again to ensure a normal bolt fit. the absence of a zinc
layer in the thread has no negative impact on the
corrosion resistance. the zinc layer on the bolt or the
thread end sufficiently protects the thread of the screw.
the modern centrifuge process allows hot dip galvanizing
of even smaller sizes of bolts and nuts without the fit
being compromised. thielco advises fitting hot dip
galvanized constructions with hot dip galvanized bolts
and nuts. our quality meets nen and iSo 1461 standards.
Moreover, thielco works according to client-specific
quality requirements.
Products with a screw thread of between m10 and m100
can be hot-dip galvanized without a problem. the screw
thread remains available over the complete length, even
up to 3,000 mm in length.

This refined metal-finishing technique produces
extremely thin protective layers of 3 to 85 microns. As
this is a cold procedure, Thielco uses this technology
particularly for small products which are sensitive to
heat, such as hardened products, steel springs, m8
bolts, nuts, mounting rings and wire nails.
the zinc layer is applied in a rotating drum. this results
in a smooth layer exhibiting excellent adhesion. An
advantage of this technology is that no hydrogen
brittleness occurs, so unnecessary breakage is prevented.
Besides zinc, other metal layers can be applied, such as tin,
copper and aluminium.
the products can be treated afterwards with a layer of oil
and/or a chromate layer to reduce the friction coefficient.
our quality meets the iSo 12683 and AStM-B 695
standards. thielco also works according to client-specific
quality requirements.

Thielco Metal Coating is iSo / TS 16949 certified. This
standard plays an important role in the automotive
sector for many years and was drawn up by the
‘international Automotive Task Force’ (iATF) and the
‘Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, inc.’
(JAMA), with the support of iSo / TC 176 ‘Quality
management and quality assurance’. This certification,
combined with the very latest and highly advanced
production process, guarantee you the highest quality
standards in the market.
The Geomet® procedure
thielco Steel Solutions Group is the only licence-holder in
the netherlands for the Geomet® chromium-free coating
technology of noF Metal coatings. this technology offers
an environmentally-friendly alternative to the coating or
galvanizing of smaller metal products - using solvents,
mechanically or via electro-plating - particularly for the
automotive industry.
A zinc-aluminium laminated coating is applied in a fully
automated production line. this ensures extremely high
corrosion resistance at a low layer thickness. A second
important advantage is that hydrogen brittleness cannot
occur. we can describe a product as a Geomet product
once two layers have been applied because only then is
the required protection offered. A third layer, the top coat,
allows the product’s friction coefficient to be efficiently
regulated. this is extremely important for various
applications.
thanks to these production lines, thielco is able to offer
a total package in Geomet 321 and Geomet 500 with
various top coats. Products in all diameters and grades of
steel, with or without screw thread, up to a maximum
length of 850 mm. this is unique for the whole of the
netherlands. the Geomet procedure is chromium-free and
as such meets the most recent eU guidelines.
