The 4th project
meeting took place at
Sennels Skole, Thisted,
Denmark from May 7 to
13, 2011. We are really
excited of the wonderful
experience we had in Den-
mark. We had teaching
sessions with the Danish
students, met parents and
we had a great time tast-
ing Danish food cooked by
the parents and watching
traditional Danish dances.
During our project meet-
ing in Denmark, we also
planted a Comenius tree,
all the partners together.
It is a chestnut tree, and
the children and adults
were singing this song in
Danish, while planting:
We will plant a
tree to grow big and tall,
all the way up to where
the sky is blue, we want to
keep the green Earth, to
be good to live upon.
Think of a chest-
nut tree, with big brown
chestnuts, we will always
be able to be sheltered,
when it snows and when it
rains.
We will plant a
tree.....
We will climb up,
as high as we can, we hope
the branch will hold, one
wants to make a chestnut-
man, others goblins and
trolls.
We will plant a
tree.... The tree will grow
big and pretty, and pro-
vide shade on sunny days,
the blackbird will
probably soon be-
gin to sing a song
for his mate.
We will plant a
tree....
We also visited a
renewable energy
centre, enjoyed
the Danish coun-
tryside and finally
visited the town
of Arhus, the
Modern Art Mu-
seum “Aros” and
the old town. Last
but not the least we would
like to thank our Danish
colleagues, students and
parents for their great
hospitality and amazing
organization of the meet-
ing!

1st. grade:
In 1st. grade we have worked
with waste and how to deal with
this.
We have read about waste-
problems, seen films how to
recycle and during the next
weeks, we will make waste-bins
in order to sort the different
types of waste.
That will be glass, plastic,
aluminium (cans), cardboard,
paper(we allready do) etc.
The chldren will be making
logos and posters to
make others aware of
the importance of
recycling and getting
rid of our waste in a
correct way.
We have talked a lot
about what effect it
may have on us and
other animals and
that:
we do not understand, that
there are still people, children and adults, who throw waste in
nature

Waste and Recycling 2nd class
In 2nd class we have worked with waste and recy-
cling. We peeled potatoes and carrots and found
out that we get a lot of waste from the kitchen.
We investigated the decomposition of waste.
What disappears and what does not.
We buried various materials in boxes of soil and
before our summer holiday we will examine what
has happened with the waste???
5th. grade have been working with circulation of water in nature, water ways, water systems,
how the watersupply works and what happens with water, after we have it in our houses.
They have also been working with understanding how a windturbine works and how we get
electricity from sun-cells.
We are so fortunate, that ON
1st. of June we went to the
University of Ålborg to have 2
workshops on renewable energy
and how to build houses, where
we don’t use so much energy.
We would so much like to tell
you about that experience and
will put pictures on our
comenius website to show you.
In the month of april:During
some of our ”Morning
gatherings” we made a big
orchestra with instrument made
out of waste materials: empty
plastic bottles, newspapers,
boxes, coca-cola cans
And things like that.
We used the orchestra
together with our Comenius
Project Song.

Some activities of the 6th class.
In February, the children of
the 6th grade enjoyed a
contest.
The theme of this contest was:
“drink tap water!”.
The whole class did some
brainstorming. Soon we came
upon the idea to design a water
fountain, where several kids
would be able to drink at, at
the same time!
Our design was called: SPRITS.
He is an eight-armed octopus.
On Monday, March the 21th,
the whole school promoted the
use of tap
water. Every
child
received an
iron bottle
to drink tap
water. And
just on that specific day, we
got really great news: our class
achieved the first price with
SPRITS! A picture of Sprits
you can find below!
On the 11th of
May 2011, the
last action was
scheduled:
MOBILE WITH
LESS CO2.
“GREEN” is an organisation
which supports schools in
their efforts to educate their
children in a environmental-
friendly and sustainable way
of living.
The title of their campaign
is: “Children change the
climate”.
They have 5 action-days,
spread all over the schoolyear
steps!
We were
very impressed! A picture of
the ceremony
you can find
here:
On Tuesday, the 22th of
March, we went to the award
ceremony in Beverlo. We
received 750 euro’s! We also
had to do a “water test”. They
gave us four different “types”
of water. We had to guess
which was tap water. No one
could guess it! Cédric still got a
gift. Then we went all the way
up in the water tower! 233

We also worked about
biodiversity.
· little tiny insects and
spiders
· seeds and
pits: dissemination
through wind, water, hair of
animals, animal excrements …
+ the growing proces of a seed.
· parent animals and their
youngsters: observation,
recognising and appointing with
the correct name (bull, cow and
calf – tom cat, cat and kitten …)
· animal home: a home for
animals in trouble.
We discussed items as
· protection
(tormentation) of animals
· caretaking: feed animals,
medical care, combing of hair,
take them out for a walk, talk
(socialise) to them …
· financial side of keeping
animals
Energy
During the subject “World
Orientation” , the children of
the 1 class did some initial
tests about
· magnetism (attaction /
repulsion – positif/negatif)
· sound (progression in
waves, short/long waves,
conducted through wires …)
This to let the children have an
imagination about electricity.
“Electricity attracts (can move
things), has a positif and
negatif pole, is conducted
through wires …”
The children also discussed
about how
· to behave safe with
electric “things”
· to spare electric energy
· to name “electric items”

song:
The Green Generation
Song
Nature’s calling you,
Think what you can do
To make the world be clean
and last forever.
Let’s make rivers clean,
Let’s make forests green
Let’s change our lives to
make them better.
We must understand
This is our land
Which needs our help to
survive.
It is time to wake up
Let’s go green!
It is time to wake up
Let’s go clean!
Our planet’s our number one
So let’s act now!

The last activities in this school
year were:
WORKSHOP ON RECYCLING
AND ENVIRONMENTAL BE-
HAVIOUR (27/05/2011)
The 7th grade students (7A)
organized a workshop on Recy-
cling and Environmental Behav-
iour on 27th May. It was held in
a conference room near our
school. Students from differ-
ent ages (5 to 14) and teachers
of different levels and sub-
jects were invited to partici-
pate. The workshop focused on
recycling, resources saving, en-
vironmental tips and every day
environmental attitudes/
behaviour. The economic impact
of recycling was also discussed.
The first “lecture” was pre-
sented by the kindergarten
students who talked and
showed a lot of pictures about
composting and natural fertil-
izer, recycling bins, biodiversity
and endangered species as well
as tips to protect the planet.
The second “lecture” was given
by the primary school students
(1st and 2nd grades) who talked
about organic gardens. They
also showed the audience loads
of photos of the organic garden
they have at school.
The 7A students
presented the
third “lecture”- a
MovieMaker pres-
entation about
their “every day
behaviour as green
students”: carpool-
ing, recycling and
saving tips.
The fourth and
last lecture was given by a Uni-
versity teacher, Mrs Edna
Cabecinha, who teaches Ecol-
ogy. She talked about recy-
cling, reusing and the eco-
nomic benefits of both.

On the 11th of May 2011 we had the opportunity to visit the Sennels School in Denmark
where we met wonderful children and adopted useful teaching practices! As Cypriots we
had the responsibility to teach in the third class. Our aim was for the students to get
to know new teachers, to develop friendship between Danish and Cypriot students and
to familiarize Danish students with Cyprus and its traditions.
Below we present the activities undertaken by children throughout the day we spent
together.
1. We had ice breaking activities. The children told their names both in Danish and Greek! They
took souvenir gifts from Cyprus.
3. They sang the traditional
Cypriot song “Roula mou Ma-
roula mou” and they acted
out the traditional tale
“Spanos and the Forty mon-
sters”.
2. They found Cyprus on the
world map. They con-
structed the map of Cyprus
and turned it into a puzzle.
4. They learned about the
role that he olive tree has
played in the history of Cy-
prus. They made on their
own the traditional
“eliopitta”.

cepted the greetings sent
by our students. They got
special cards designed espe-
cially for them by their
friends from Cyprus. We
also had a conference call
with the children of the 4th
grade.
6. We planted a tree in the
school yard that will always
remind us that wonderful
day.
7. In the evening, the chil-
dren visited the Cyprus
Corner with their parents,
where they had the oppor-
tunity to be photographed
wearing Cypriot costumes.
They danced traditional
Cypriot dances, they tasted
traditional
dishes like “pastelaki” and
“soutziouko” and drank gor-
dial rose!
8. At night, we watched the
wonderful Danish traditional
dances and we ate the deli-
cious food prepared by the
students’ parents!

In Romania, March (well-know
as „Mărţişor” = „Little March”,
a traditional fest celebrated
every year on 1st of March) is
the first month of the Spring
season. Because the tip of the
month was about energy,
students from Horlesti-Rediu
School colored printed papers
and did learn about different
types of renewable energies
(wind, water, solar...) and about
how each of them could
contribute to reduce the
consume of the energy at
school and at home. Then they
realised an exhibition on the
main hall of our school with
their artworks.
realised ships from white paper
with flags of partner countries

Also, best pictures of our
students regarding life in the
water bodies were selected for
a local exhibition. On 26th of
March, in our school all
electronical equipments were
switched off one hour to
celebrate Earth Hour, an
international event contributing
to conserve the energy.
On 22nd of March 2011,

renewable energies with many
pictures and videos took from
Denmark.
Within the Internation Year of
Forests and the World
Environment Day (5th of June),
students and teachers of
primary grades from our school
made a study visit to the
Moldavian mountains, learning
how to protect the environment
and further details about water
energy.
They visited the "bison land" at
Vanatori-Neamt Natural Park.
Students found out that bisons
are representing an historical
symbol for the north-eastern
part of Romania (Moldavia
region), even nowdays they are
just few exemplaires in some
natural reservations like this.
Under aegis of the "European
Year of Volunteering", we took
part in a national programme
called "The Europe Our
Home" (www.europacasanoastra.

through arts: singing the
official antheum and drawing
the UE flag and countries. Also,
in Romania it was a National
