Besides being a time and place, what else defines a setting? Give an example
Setting involves
The rules and structures set in place that govern characters
Example: The setting of the classroom include routines that help make the classroom operate smoothly.
In Fantasy Fiction, a couple of ways that setting often has impact are:
1. Character relationships: How characters interact with each other
2. Character decisions: The choices characters make
To figure out how a fantasy setting impacts fantasy characters, we can do 3 steps:
WHAT’S THE ACTUAL SETTING
FACTUAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE SETTING
How will this make characters/(character) interact with others
How will this affect the choices characters/(character) make(s)
**DO THE STEPS BACKWARDS! IT HELPS!
