Girls wrestling is the fastest growing sport in the country.
Girls high school wrestling participation numbers have grown for 27 consecutive years.13,496 girls participated in high school wrestling in 2016. Unfortunately Kansas high school girlswho wrestle, rarely have the opportunity to compete against their own gender.
24 Schools Is The Key! There is a proposal ready to submit to KSHSAA, but Kansas State High School Activities Association rules require that aminimum of twenty-four KSHSAA member schools have varsity teams competing interscholastically during the regular seasonof competition before the Board of Directors could consider addition of a post-season tournament. Having twenty-fourschools is not a guarantee that the Board must or will authorize a post-season championship. Rather twenty-four is theminimum number required for consideration of a proposal which would have to come from the member schools.The Proposal• Regular Season to run parallel to the regular KSHSAA wrestling season• 10 weight classes• Duals and tournaments follow samecompetition point system currently in place• Girls would not be allowed to competeagainst boys unless the tournament or dual does not have/recognize the girls division• Post Season - single class (6A-1A) statetournament with no qualifier
