POSITIVE JOB RESPONSES

DEALING WITH INTEREST

Page 3: Get an English teaching job abroad – Positive job responses

Dealing with interest

Be very positive when you reply to an indication of interest in your CV/resume.

Do not be demanding.

Ask what the interview process is so that you know if you can afford to continue with the job application.

Try to convince the school to have a video conference/Skype interview.

Rehearse your answers to the challenges we mentioned in earlier presentations.

Dealing with interest

Prepare and be convincing.

Brush up everything you learned on your course because you will be asked about everything a trained EFL teacher should know.

If you do well at the first interview, be ready for the school asking you to interview face-to-face.

Decide whether you want to risk going to the country in the hope that you will pass the interview and be offered a job.

When you attend the face-to-face interview, dress smart and behave professionally.

POSITIVE JOB RESPONSES

CONCLUSION

Conclusion

If you do your own job searching, a realistic time estimate for you to get a job abroad and start earning is between 3 to 6 months.

If you decide to pay to attend a volunteer/internship program, the time will be shorter but you will have to pay a few thousand dollars to join the program.

Jobs through employment programs like JET and EPIK may include some cost-saving benefits.

These jobs are almost always for people with a four week certificate (with observed teaching practice) and a year or two of teaching experience.

Conclusion

These programmes lock you in to a job for at least one year. There are financial penalties if you break the contract for whatever reason.

These programs offer a limited number of jobs each year and require a face-to-face interview in one of their centres.

The total cost of studying at home and then looking for work abroad could end up costing you between $5,000 and $6,000.

In comparison, an estimate to take the EBC four week course, get a job teaching English in Madrid and house yourself until your first wage payment is about 20% less.
