GENERIC RESUME TEMPLATEGuidelines

Using this template is a good way to get started preparing your resume. Be sure to have a professional career coach review it after you have finished.

Save this template as a .doc file. Work from the .doc file, and save the template (.doc) to use again.

Times New Roman is a universal font and less susceptible to micro variations from computer to computer that can affect the line length. Also, it is easier to read than Arial. We recommend Font size 11 or 12.

Headers and footers are not used thus allowing more flexibility when adjusting the number of lines on a page so that you may accommodate more information when necessary. As a result, the header for the 2nd page will float as you type. You may add or delete hard returns as needed to reposition it. Try to keep the resume to 2 pages. An addendum can be added if necessary.

If there is not enough room for your address in the header, use the alternate header template.

Today almost every resume lists an email address. If your email address becomes active when keying it in, you can make it inactive by highlighting and applying Control F9. Active links have a line under them, causing a double line in the header. Also, an active email address will appear lighter in print value than the rest of the text. (Also, you can highlight the email address and delete the underline and change the text color to black so it shows instead of the blue).

To type in text, just highlight over existing text and type. The formatting will be retained. Delete all extraneous text and save.
