I am happy to share my thoughts with you all through this newsletter.
The whole world witnesses a new s c e n a r i o w i t h C O V I D 1 9
pandemic bringing a lot of changes in almost all the sectors and particularly in education. The conventional mode of face to face teaching has been swiftly replaced with the online mode of teaching through various digital platforms. As such, the teaching learning at our institution has not been interrupted as the new change has been rapidly adopted by both our faculty and students. The whole process of teaching learning and assessments are being carried out in a systematic manner through online. I appreciate the faculty and students for their readiness in accepting the change and adopting the technologies in sustaining the academic endeavour in a better way.
It is a great feat that the team of our Thiagarajar Polytechnic College with code named Rebels comprising of Mr.M.Rajesh, Lecturer/ECE (Mentor), Selvi.B.Sruthi, III/ECE (Leader) and Members Selvan.S.Kishore kumar, III/ECE, Selvi.S.Usha, III/ECE, Selvi.S.Vishali, III/ECE, Selvan.S.Suresh, III/ECE and Selvan.M.Megheswara, II/ECE won the FIRST PRIZE with cash award of Rs.1.00 lakh in Smart India Hackathon 2020 inaugurated by our Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri.Narendra Modiji on 01.O8.2020. Our team has won the prize under Software category for their solution offering Smart Farming with IoT Technology to the “CDK_Global RA28 Problem Statement - Crop Guidance and Farmers Friend” at the Nodal Centre, Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research, Mumbai.
I congratulate the HoD, Mentor and the students of ECE for their great achievement competing with the students of engineering colleges and winning this prestigious award at the national level.
This year, we have conducted the admissions to first year through online mode and I am very happy to welcome all the admitted students to this temple of learning.
I wish the students of final year to prepare well for their forthcoming autonomous final semester examinations 2020 through online and give your best to get through the diploma course with flying colours.
Also, I congratulate all the HoDs, Placement Officers, Placement Co-ordinators, faculty and students for achieving 785 placement offers for 445 students during the bygone year. I wish all the students a very successful career and life.

AICTE- Chhatra Viswakarma Award 2019
The Annual Day marks the culmination of an academic year and celebrates the activities by
honouring the achievers in various fields of this institution. The 62nd Annual Day of this prestigious
institution was celebrated on 29 March 2020.
The Chief Guest of the day Mr.D.Muralidhar, Director, SNAM Group of Companies, Bengaluru
delivered the Annual Day address. He motivated the students with his inspiring address highlighting
the essential skills needed to climb up the ladder of success in life and career.
The honourable Chairman Sri.C.Valliappa and our dynamic Vice Chairmen Sri.Chocko Valliappa and
Sri.Thyagu Valliappa presented their motivating addresses to the students. The Principal
Dr.V.Karthikeyan presented the Annual Report highlighting the activities and achievements of the
polytechnic during the year 2019- 2020. Six elite alumni were honoured and the achievers in various
disciplines were awarded for their outstanding accomplishments.
The Annual Sports Day of this institution was celebrated on 13.03.2019. The Sports Day is meant to
rejoice and acknowledge the achievements and success of our sports persons in different sports and
games events. The Chief Guest of the Day Mr.Sebastian Xavier, Indian Swimmer, recipient of Arjuna
Award highlighted the importance of sports and games. Our Chairman Sri.C.Valliappa, Vice
Chairman Sri.Thyagu Valliappa and Principal Dr.V.Karthikeyan congratulated the winners of various
sports events and inspired them to maintain the true spirit of sportsmanship among the players.
The Republic Day was celebrated in our institution on 26 January 2020. Our Chairman Sri.C.Valliappa
hoisted the tricolor and inspected the NCC and NSS parade and delivered the Republic Day
celebrations. The Students displayed their talents and enthralled with their outstanding
performance. Also, an Art Exhibition was inaugurated by our Chairman which showcased the artistic
skills of our students.
Adding glory to the list of achievements is the recent award of FIRST Prize in the Virtual Smart India
Hackathon 2020 by our students. The team code Rebels of our institution with Mr.M.Rajesh,
Lecturer/ECE (Mentor), Selvi.B.Sruthi, III/ECE (Leader) and Members Selvan.S.Kishorekumar, III/ECE,

Development and Research, Mumbai. This Virtual Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon 2020 (SIH
2020) was held from 1 Aug 2020 to 3 Aug 2020, inaugurated by our Hon'ble Prime Minister of India
Sri. Narendra Modi Ji on 01 Aug 2020.
It is a proud feat that the project entitled “Sol Anemo Water Generator” designed and fabricated by
our students of Electrical and Electronics Engineering viz., J.R.Hariharan, V.Karthic, N.Sankar and
T.Ranjithkumar under the guidance of Mr.M.A.Suresh Babu, Lecturer/EEE won the Third Prize with
the Cash Award of Rs.20,000/- in the National Level AICTE-Chhatra Viswakarma Awards 2019 held on
24.02.2020 at AICTE Head Quarters, New Delhi.
Sri Srinivasa Thirukalyanam 2020
Online Education and Webinars during COVID 19 Pandemic
Sri Srinivasa Thirukalyanam was organized in our campus for
the fourth time on 09.02.2020 in a befitting manner under the
leadership of Sri.C.Valliappa. I express my gratitude for giving
me an opportunity to serve as the Secretary of Sri Srinivasa
Thirukalyana Committee and conducting the same
spectacularly by having our Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil
Nadu Edappadi.K.Palanisamy and His Excellency, the
Governor of Tamil Nadu Sri.Banwarilal Prohit as the Prime
Guests. Nearly, one lakh devotees attended this
Thirukalyanam and sought blessings of the Lord.
The spread of COVID 19 has brought a great impact in the
teaching learning process. Since the closure of education
institutions in the wake of COVID 19 pandemic by the State
and Central governments during March 20120, our institution
has been offering education through online mode under
various digital platforms. Also, more than 100 webinars were
organized for the benefit of both teachers and students
through online mode. Also assessments were carried out
online through BLACKBOARD software. Thus, the teaching
learning process at our institution goes well through online
platforms meticulously.
