Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Present Cycle Mahler

Yakov Kreizberg, Artistic & Musical Director of the Monte-Carlo

Philharmonic, takes the podium for the second concert in the

orchestra's new season, a performance entitled Cycle Mahler, which

takes place on Sunday 26th September. "Remaining true to the

musical agenda initiated when I arrived," says Kreizberg, "wecontinue to present a rich variety of series - concerts in the

Auditorium Rainier III and the Grimaldi Forum, Midis Musicaux,

Matinées Classiques, and of course young people's concerts - all of 

which will provide

many opportunities to

hear major works of 

symphonic repertoire

from Beethoven and

Brahms, to Schumann

and Rachmaninov, and

much much more,

without forgetting

Gustav Mahler."

2010 marks the

centenary of  Mahler's

death, and this concertwill be the first in the current season of the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic to

mark the occasion, with a performance of his Symphony No 5. Composed

during 1901 and 1902, the work is in five movements, the most familiar of 

which being the hauntingly beautiful Adiagietto. "When you hear Mahler's

Fifth," said Herbert von Karajan, "you forget that time has passed. A great 

 performance of the Fifth is is a transforming experience. The fantastic finale

almost forces you to hold your breath."
