A Blessing in My Eyes
To see a World in a Grain of Sand – And Heaven in a Wild Flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand and Eternity in an hour. (William Blake)
If the only prayer you said was thank you –
That would be enough.
(Meister Eckhart)
Many years and many beaches ago, I had my dog with me and I was on my way to watch the sun set at Fort
Desoto Beach, a relatively wild and undeveloped beach on the Gulf Coast. As I drove, lines from a song – actually, a
hymn – kept running through my mind. This particular segment had been stuck in my head for well over a week. I
had given up fighting the rhythmic repetition of the words, and allowed the lyrics to become my mantra:
May the words of my mouth
And the meditations of my heart
Be pleasing to you, Oh God. . . .
I want to be a blessing in your eyes. . . .
I want to be a blessing in your eyes.
(Lyrics by Shane Barnard, adapted from Psalm 19)
My dog and I walked the coastal path that edged the beach, and I watched as an amazing sunset emerged over
the horizon – filling the sky, reflecting on the water. And in my head the mantra continued, “I want to be a blessing in
your eyes. . . ” It was probably the most spectacular sunset I have ever seen – and I have seen many. I was in awe.
And still, the mantra in my head continued, “I want to be a blessing in your eyes. . . ” . The setting sun was
increasingly more and more amazing. The beauty of the water and the sky was alive and I felt like the energy of the
setting sun was filling me – moving through me. I felt transfixed and wanted to stay right there forever – just taking in
the miracle before my eyes.
With perfect timing, my dog chose that moment to yank on her leash so powerfully that it spun me around –
leaving me with my back to the water. I was a hair trigger away from being angry, but quickly realized I was facing a
reflection of the sunset in the clouds that was even more beautiful than the one over the water. In the midst of all of
that, the mantra in my head continued, “I want to be a blessing in your eyes. . . ” In an instant, something in me
dissolved, maybe ‘chemicalized.’ It was like a beauty overdose, and it left me in a subtle, but very powerful way
permanently changed. In that moment, I knew with profound clarity that I had been walking my spiritual path
backwards. I did not need to try to be a blessing in God’s eyes. I needed to allow God to be a blessing in my eyes –
and to simply say ‘thank you.’
It is not mine to yearn to be a blessing in God’s eyes. I am God’s creation and God has already seen me as
“good.” If you doubt me, check out the book of Genesis. In Genesis, God kept looking at his/her creations and
knowing that it was all good. My job, my spiritual path, is to look upon God’s creation and know that it is good. My
path is to allow God – and the infinite expressions of God – to be a blessing in my eyes. If I am to know God, I need
my spiritual path to lead me to see God as an ever unfolding blessing. I need to see all of God in the same way I was
seeing the sunset. My path is to see God as a blessing and to be grateful.
May God be a blessing in my eyes.
May God be a blessing in your eyes.
Thank you, God. And so it is.
Rev. Dalia

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that
also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is
based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us
and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low,
then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we
are more capable of being happy and healthy.
Pranic Healing® Clinic
6:00 p.m. on the First
Friday of the Month
Facilitated by Lilia Afshary
Pranic Healing® is a simple yet powerful and effective system of no-
touch energy healing. It is based on the fundamental principles that
the body is a self-repairing living entity that possesses the ability to
heal itself and that the healing process is accelerated by increasing
this life force that is readily available from the sun, air and ground
to address physical and emotional imbalances.

UNITY PRINCIPLES God is good and everywhere present.
The spirit of God lives within each person, therefore, all people are inherently good.
We create our life experiences through our way of thinking.
There is power in affirmative prayer, which we believe increases our connection to God.
Knowing and understanding Unity principles is the foundation. Taking action based on the truth principles transforms our
lives and the world.
