In his lifetime, Leonardo da Vinci conducted over thirty dissections of human corpses in an aim to find out the location of the point where the soul goes to rest. Da Vinci de-scribed this point as “The Confluence of all the Senses” which for him was found in the same place as common sense. He eventu-ally found this point, a point he located geo-metrically inside the skull, or to be more exact at the intersection between lines a-m and c-b in Figure1. Despite using a linear perspective in a great number of his repre-sentations, in most of his military and engi-neering works, an aerial view, which could be easily assimilated to the axonometric perspective, helped simplify the geometric and dimensional issues.
X-rays serve as a way of diagnosing pathol-ogies within the structural system and cer-tain soft tissues in live beings. X-rays have also infiltrated the world of art. The work of Nick Veasey, with its comic touch, reveals the internal structures of objects, animals and humans, their connections and the re-lationships existing between the different parts. Displaying what is initially concealed. Displaying what normally goes unseen.

The illustration of the elephant on the cover of this book is a reference to the issue of the relationship between support structure- which bears the weight, channels the forces and articulates movement- and form. This interior system is known to exist yet we are not always aware of its material nature. The anatomical review of the twenty collec-tive housing projects included in this book aims to document what cannot be perceived at first sight. The information about each project is condensed into data and two ax-onometric projections. one of the latter re-lates the building with its context giving an idea of the mass and identifies uses as bear-ers of meaning, as energies giving meaning to form. The other is a scan of the interior skeleton, that is of the vertical cores, cor-ridors and galleries which are the circula-tion elements which channel both flow and movement. This cannot be fully appreciated in photographs and two-dimensional plans and for this reason this anatomical study aims to give an insight into the real relation-ship between form and internal organs and to find the true location of the soul of each project.
proyecto.

The dimensions of the two plots, located on the edges of an urban block along with existing protected structures, suggest the double block form as the first option: two parallel alignments with a void in between. nonetheless, this first decision has been en-hanced by combining four typologies within each alignment.each block contains ground floor dwell-ings with gardens, single-floor apartments, maisonettes and penthouses with terraces. sizes. in addition to the variety of typologies there is also a variety of types of access, which converge in the atrium occupying the intermediate void. The decision to incorporate this void as a core space in the construction, creating a roof and glazed greenhouse-type envelope, transforms the original double block into an oversized patio house with natural heat reg-ulation due to the options to create openings in the roof, which is fitted with solar panels.
cerramientos acristalados tipo invernadero,

inserTion in The griD
The urban project, designed by
AnMA (Agence nicolas Michelin
& Associés) in conjunction with
Atelier des Bassins for this
former Bordeaux industrial and
port area, involves preserving
the existing heritage elements,
including the grid, and adding
mixed use, primarily residential,
buildings. The rue Achard
building and the building located
on rue Blanqui, enclose, on the
east and west sides, a large
urban block criss-crossed by
pedestrian paths which connect
the public spaces.
circUlATion
As this is a hybrid typology, there
are several types of access:
vertical circulation cores for
the apartments in the tower;
individual street access for
the ground-floor dwellings;
and vertical circulation cores
plus open galleries for the
apartments on the upper floors.
communal access is also from
the street, although this connects
up in the atrium. This way, it
differs from the courtyard-house
typology, where the access is
from the courtyard. each of the
galleries, which run alongside
and cross the atrium, serves six
dwellings.
inserCión en lA trAMA
el proyecto urbano, diseñado por
AnMA (Agence nicolas Michelin &
Associés) con Atelier des bassins
para esta antigua zona industrial
y portuaria de burdeos, consiste
en mantener el patrimonio de
valor existente, incluida la trama,
y añadir piezas con usos mixtos,
principalmente residenciales.
CirCulACiones
Al tratarse de una tipología
híbrida, los accesos son de varios
tipos: núcleos verticales para
los pisos de la torre; acceso
individual desde la calle para
las viviendas en planta baja; y
núcleos verticales más galerías
abiertas para las viviendas de los
niveles superiores.
los accesos comunes también se
producen desde la calle, si bien
tienen conexión con el atrio.
en ese sentido, difiere de la casa-
patio tipo, en donde los accesos
arrancan desde el patio. las
galerías que recorren y cruzan el
atrio sirven a un máximo de seis
viviendas cada una.
