A Note from Fr. Francisco
The most well-known saints who lived the beatitudes are: St. Francis of Assisi and Saint Teresa of Calcutta, who shone for
their material and spiritual poverty. We also have St. Jerome who shed many tears in penance; St. Peter Claver and Blessed
Oscar Romero who were hungry and thirsty for justice. See the bulletin for Fr. Francisco’s complete
message.

A Franciscan Moment
The word “Beatitude” refers to a state of deep happiness or joy. But these
sayings are paradoxes. They turn our expectations upside down.
Jesus is bringing us a new law, new expectations on how to live. He is
bringing forth the Kingdom of God.

Stewardship Thought
Each of the “blesseds” in today’s gospel is a statement about an important aspect
in how we exercise stewardship of our lives. Each of them offers us an ideal of
how to live and how we find God living within us.

Franciscan Moment
Jesus proclaimed the Beatitudes in his first great sermon. He preached for the blessed to be “poor in spirit”. St. Francis understood perfectly what Jesus meant. He recognized God’s greatness and his
own lowliness. He prayed for hours asking the Lord, “Who are you? Who am I?” Join St. Francis this week, reflecting
on who God is and on his love for us.
We can walk closer to St. Francis, St. Clare, and our Franciscan brothers by mindfully
being more grateful for God’s almighty love. Let us appreciate, each day and every hour
all that we have and all that is good.
