Digital Relationships
a Film 260 Flipbook by Aparajita Mehra
Digital relationships are fast becoming the
present and future of human interaction.
In a world that is transforming to exist more and
more online…
…finding a love-partner, date, or soul-mate has
been revolutionized.
Vast digital networks span the globe, connecting
humans in a way that redefines globalization.
People are falling in love regardless of borders and
boundaries…
with access to massive databases of
potential partners to choose from,
and services that promote discussion of online dating culture
and experiences on digital forums.
We no longer have to depend on chance meetings in person
to find that special person.
And can use smartphone camera-based apps to see and
connect with our loved ones face-to-face, all day, everyday.
The digital world offers a plethora of resources to keep
love fresh and maintain long distance relationships
The cost of this digital dependency however, is a loss of
meaning and less attachment to romantic relationships.
We begin to collect acquaintances instead of nurture
friendships and relationships.
Interactions quickly become a pursuit for attention; likes,
retweets and followers,
Till love is expressed only through smileys and
punctuation rather than playful touches and facial
expressions.
What a person appears to be on
the internet is not the full story.
The reality is that people can, and
will lie.
The realm of the internet is
huge, and we can get lost in
the crowd, forget and be
forgotten by those we love.
Feeling less accountable
for online relationships
than we do in person.
Purely digital relationships are emotionally
taxing
Humans require connection in person, making online
relationships a challenge that not many can maintain.
It is easy to get lost in the growing digital storm, but love has
been found by many in this fast-paced lattice of connections.
