Murmansk is ´heading west´ by focusing on new technology (e.g. nuclear submarines), oil industry and improving the city (E.g. new luxury appartments).
However, Pollution and devastation on ecosystems show that There is need for planning more in tact with the ecology.
The emerging oil drilling in the barents sea and the melting artic ice are near-future events that are difficult to change at the present.
But what long-term planning can be done in order to change the direction we it is heading?

Possible Acts of flexibility
changing the modern hubris by focusing on youth, collectivity, environment and creativity.
To avoid problems like pollution and climate change, one possible precaution is to get a shift in values and knowledge.
It is important that the people of the city feel like they can take part in the future of the city. To have initiative and willpower to stear the city in the right direction. There should be places to meet, socialise, be creative and innovative. Espesially the young should have these possibilities. they are the ones who will take care of the planet in the furture.
Restore the salmon by improving salmonlifts.
When hydro power plants were built the salmon spawning grounds and migration routes were destroyed. A fish lift was built at the dam, but it did not work and was closed down after a short time.
If succeeded, salmon restoration would also return the river environment nearer to its original biological state. This would also bring the original hosts back to the life environment of the endangered pearl mus-sels and thereby make the continuation of mussel generations possible for the coming centuries.
Make ecological processes
more visible to city people By e.g. recreation fishing, urban farming, hiking etc.
Humans have become more and more ignorant when it comes to ecology. Machines do most of the work for us. I think it is important that people understand the natural processes in nature and remember how fragile it is.
