IntroductionRunners talk about “hitting the wall”
during the last part of a race. They have difficulty finishing when their bodies be-come depleted of fuel. You don’t have to be a runner to hit the wall. As we head into the last quarter of the year, it’s nor-mal to feel like we’ve run out of energy to achieve our goals. We’ve worked hard, eaten better and lost weight. But this time of year can be challenging.
We’re coming up on the holiday sea-son. We’ll face food temptations at special events, parties and family gatherings. As we get bus-ier socializing and shopping, it may be difficult to find time to exercise and cook healthy meals. Don’t get discouraged! In the last issue, we talked about resetting our year-end goals. Over the next three months, this contest will also help you move more, eat healthy and be well.
Three Stages for Better HealthIn this health triathlon, teams have the opportunity to complete endurance activities from
one category per week over the course of a month: Move More, Eat Healthy and Be Well. Mem-bers can choose from the activities listed or make up one of their own. During the fourth week, team members can choose a Mix It Up activity and decide if they want to continue the contest for the next month. It’s also a good time for the chapter as a whole to share how things went.
Complete instructions are in this article. You can choose to do the contest for a single month or all three months. Find ever more challenging activities for the second and third months in “TOPS News and Online Extras,” in the Members Area of www.tops.org. This contest is appro-priate for TOPS and KOPS members—so everyone has an opportunity to finish strong and win!
Begin by forming teams of 3 people and giving your team a name. Each team member will earn a point for each activity they do, including the group challenge, with the potential of earning 4 points per person and 12 points per team each week.
At the end of the month, points are totaled and the team with the most points wins. In case of a tie, teams can pick up extra points for each person who has lost weight or stayed in leeway. Prizes can also be awarded at that time.
