Eugene G. Oeder
September 13, 1917 - February 10, 2019
Eugene G. “Terribly” Oeder left peacefully in his sleep to be with his Beloved
Maker.
Eugene was born 10 minutes of midnight in Mill City, Oregon to Albert and
Grace (Lincoln) Oeder. He grew up in the hills and woods of Oregon, never
losing his passion for hiking. He graduated from Philomath High School in
1936 and worked in the lumber industry with his father and brothers Bert,
Lincoln, and James. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in WW II in the
Pacific Theatre as a machinist and was honorably discharged. When Gene
came home, he married his sister-in-law’s favorite niece, Betty Jean Kutsch on
Sept. 22, 1946. They moved to Peoria, IL where he went to Bradley University
and graduated with a degree in horology with an emphasis on watchmaking
and repair. They moved back to Albany where he worked for French’s Jewel-
ers and then Georgia Pacific. It was here that they raised three children.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the VFW. He enjoyed
playing pool at the Albany Senior Center, fishing, duck hunting, duck calling,
and roller skating. He was also the most aged and teased member of Fitness
Experience.
He was particularly fond of his red 1968 Chevy Sports van which he showed at
numerous car shows around the local area. When people asked him how he
was doing, he always replied “Terribly" (which was a reference to terribly
good!) He made many friends with his smile and mischievous manner.
He is survived by daughter Terri L. Agee (Steve); son Gary A. Oeder (Nedra);
grandchildren Aurora Agee, Logan Agee Hamilton (Reid), Chase Agee (Ayla),
Samantha Casteel, Sharlee Oeder-Booyer (Brian); great-grandchildren Devin
Casteel, Luke Cuveas, Ryze A. Hamilton and West S. Hamilton; and niece
Trudy Voegler and many other cousins and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Steven R. Oeder and his wife, Betty Jean
(Kutsch) Oeder.
A visitation will be held at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home on February 19
