1. Dog bites in Rubengera Health Center, Karongi District
Eleven dog bites cases were reported from Rubengera HC of Kibuye District Hospital in Karongi district. Eight of them were children
aged less than 15 years while three were adults. All of them were from Rubengera sector and were transferred to the district hospital for post exposure prophylaxis. The bites were by three different unknown dogs, one of which was later killed by the community.
2. National upsurge
in malaria cases
There has been a steady increase in
the number of malaria cases reported country-wide during the last 12 weeks. As seen in figure 1, the number of all ma-laria cases increased from 14,747 in week 32 (early August) to 54,424 in week 43. A total of 327, 814 cases were reported during the 12-week period. Eight districts (figure 2) accounted for 50% (164,833) of the malaria cases reported during same period.

• Measles : seven cases confirmed by epidemiological link including five from Rutsiro health center of Murunda DH and one each Ramba health center of Kabaya DH and Nyabirasi health center of Murunda DH; Eight suspected cases including one each from Busengo health center of Nemba DH, Cyanika (nyamagabe) of Kigeme DH Gahini health center of Ga-hini DH , Karambi (ruhango) health center of Gitwe DH Kirehe health center of Kirehe DH Munzanga health center of Kirinda hospital, Rambura and Shyira health centers of Shyira DH. • Meningococcal meningitis: two suspected cases including one each from Ngarama and Kibogora DH.• Mumps : 177 cases • Dog bites / (rabies exposure): five cases including one each from Bigugu health center of Kibuye hospital, Byahi (rubavu) health center of Gisenyi DH, Byumba DH, Gitare health center of butaro DH and Kibogora DH.• Viral Conjunctivitis: five cases including three from Deva Medical Center Clinic of Gasabo district and one each from Bethanie Medical Clinic of Karongi distrct and Ubuzima polyclinic of Gasabo district. • Typhoid fever: one confirmed case from Nemba DH. • Rubella : one case from Mushishiro health center of Kabgayi DH

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT EBOLA VIRUS DISEASE ( EVD) in DRC?
Epidemiological Situation of EVD In DRC as of 18th July, 2019 Since the beginning
• The cumulative number of cases is 2532 including 2438 confirmed and 94 probable.• 1705 deaths (1611 confirmed and 94 probable) • 718 people cured.• The confirmed / probable health workers is 137 including 41 deaths.• On 17th July 2019, the WHO has declared declared Ebola Virus Disease in DRC as a Public Emergency for Interna-tional Concern• On 14th july 2019 a confirmed case of EVD that was reported in Goma. the case was a man who travelled to the city from Beni by bus, visiting a local health centre on arrival where the alert was raised. He transferred the same day to the Ebola Treatment Centre (ETC) in Goma, and died while being transferred to the ETC in Butembo.
