• On a blank sheet of paper you will create a timeline by:1. Title: The End of Slavery Timeline
2. Drawing a line from top to bottom about 1/3 of the width of the page from the left-hand edge
3. On the left you will write the dates and the right you will right the events
4. Entries that appear in RED in the PP need to be highlighted/underlined on your timeline

Lord Dunmore promises slaves freedom if they fight for the British in the American Revolution

Abolitionist societies formed in Great Britain, United States and France.

Haitian Revolution

Britain and the United States outlaw participation in the Atlantic slave trade
1823
British government approves plan for gradual abolition in the colonies.
1833
Britain emancipates 800 000 slaves in the British colonies; owners compensated
1848
Liberal Revolution in France leads to the abolishment of slavery in French colonies
1850
Under pressure from Britain Brazil stops participating in the Atlantic slave trade

American Civil War begins

Emancipation Proclamation

American Civil War ends; Thirteenth Amendment abolishes slavery

Spain begins gradual emancipation
