Map ProductionThe present map shows basic topographic features such as transportation, hydrology andsettlements in the area of El Daein, Sudan. These basic topographic features are derived frompublic datasets, refined by means of visual interpretation of one Pléiades satellite image dated15/12/13.The satellite image has been pre-processed (orthorectified, georeferenced, pansharped andstreched) prior to interpretation. SRTM data has ben used as support in the rectificationprocess.The estimated geometric accuracy of this product is 5 m CE90 or better, from native positionalaccuracy of the background satellite image.The estimated thematic accuracy of this product is 85 % or better, as it is based on visualinterpretation of recognizable items on very high resolution optical imagery.Only the area enclosed by the Area of Interest has been analyzed.Map produced on 2014-01-30 by Metria AB under contract 257228 with the EuropeanCommission. The core user of this map is international humanitarian aid operators. The purpose of therequested analysis is to map the informal and formal settlements and the non-residential citystructures to derive population estimates and population densities per sector in the town of ElDaein. The request for population estimates is made with the aim to facilitate the planning andestimation of needs for an urban water network.Please note: the population figures are derived from digitized residential building blocks andfrom the percentage of built-up in each block.The number of building structures per householdand the avaerage number of peoples per household can help derive these f igures.
