ISLAMICRELIEF USA
WORKING TOGETHER FOR A BETTER WORLD. UPDATED: FEBRUARY 2017
CURRENT SITUATIONMore than 65 million people have been forcibly displaced from their homes worldwide, according to UNHCR in 2015. That's the highest level of displacement ever on record. More than 21 million of them are refugees, which means they have crossed borders. More than half of the refugees are children under 18. Almost 1 in 6 of the world’s displaced people are Syrians (both inside and outside Syria). Almost 34,000 people are forced to flee every day because of conflict or persecution.
IRUSA’S RESPONSEIslamic Relief USA has worked to provide humanitarian aid for refugees since our founding more than 20 years ago — from Bosnian refugees in Europe in 1993/1994, to Kosovars settling in the United States in the late 1990s, to Syrians in numerous countries today.
IRUSA work for refugees and other displaced families* in 2016 alone:• More than 3 million people helped• More than 3 dozen projects • 13 countries on 5 continents (Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America) o Ecuador o Germany o Iraq o Jordan o Kenya o Lebanon o Myanmar(This includes refugees, who have had to cross borders, and internally displaced people, who are displaced inside their own countries.)
This humanitarian aid included:• Food• Water• Winter supplies• Medical care• Education• Sanitation necessities like bathrooms and soap• Livelihood support like job skills trainingHere in the United States, IRUSA supports programs that offer shelter and help refugees integrate and find jobs.
This is just a start. We need to do more together.
Because they didn’t ask to lose their homes.

STORIES SULEEKHA'S STORYSuleekha is 7. She lost her father when she was just 2 years old. She was raised in this tent in Somalia. Her grandmother takes care of her because her mother is mentally ill and unfit to care for her. Her grandmother works hard for $3 a day—when she even gets paid. An IRUSA sponsor helps her pay for Suleekha's food and other basic needs.
Suleekha deserves to feel protected.
AHMED'S* STORYAhmed* didn’t want to leave his home to look for safety in Greece—he didn’t want to cling to a boat across a dangerous sea. After their journey, his family arrived on the shore of Lesvos, Greece, and stayed at this 24-hour refugee camp, where IRUSA donors sent a team to greet and assist refugees. From there, Ahmed's family had to walk to their next destination. They survived the rough Aegean Sea, but the road ahead was still full of uncertainty and danger.
Ahmed deserves a childhood.

Imaan deserves to learn what safety feels like.
