About REEEPTheRenewableEnergyandEnergyEfficiencyPartnership(REEEP)isaglobalpublic-privatepartnership formed in2002during theWorldSummitonSustainableDevelopmentinJohannesburgandhasthestatusofaninternationalNGO.REEEPisanactive,globalpartnership thatworks to reduce thebarriers limiting theuptakeof renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies,with aprimary focus on emerging markets and developing countries.REEEP partners include governments, businesses, NGOs,financiers,andotherrepresentativesofcivilsociety.Byprovidingopportunitiesforconcertedcollaborationamongitspartners,REEEPaims to accelerate the marketplace for renewable energy andenergyefficiency.REEEPhas a network of Regional Secretariats on theground

around theglobe, ensuring that all activities are locally relevantand focused. The REEEP South Asia Regional Secretariat wasestablished in 2005 and is hosted and operated by the AsianEnergy Institute (AEI). It covers Bangladesh, Bhutan, India,Maldives,Nepal,Pakistan,andSriLanka.

BackgroundThe Delhi International Renewable Energy Conference (DIREC)2010isapartofaninitiativetakenatthe2002WorldSummitonSustainable Development in Johannesburg, acknowledging thesignificanceofrenewableenergiesforsustainabledevelopment—especiallyforcombatingpovertyandforenvironmentalandclimateprotection. DIREC, an international platform for government,privatesector,andnon-governmentalleaders,isthefourthglobalministerial-level conference on renewable energy. It is beinghosted by theMinistry of New andRenewable Energy (MNRE),Government of India from 27–29 October 2010 in New Delhi.DIREC’sinternationalforumwillendeavourtoaddressthegoalofadvancingrenewableenergyforsustainabledevelopment.UnderJawaharlalNehruNationalSolarMission,ambitioustargetshave been set to ensure that there is wide-scale penetration ofsolar water heating systems in domestic as well as industrialsectors. The goal, therefore, is to achieve 15 million m2 solarthermalcollectorareaby2017and20millionm2by2022.MNREisalsoimplementingaUNDP/GEFassistedprojecton‘Globalsolarwaterheatingmarket transformationandstrengthening initiative:Indiacountryprogramme.’ThisParallelEventisbeingorganizedbyREEEPandMNREalongwithTERIandUNDPagainst theaforementionedbackdrop,withanaim tobring together national and international actors in thefieldofsolarwaterheating.

ObjectivesThe broad objectives of this event are as follows.•Toprovideaplatformforsharingofexperiencesoftheinternationalexpertsandpractitioners
