Foundation
TicSalut (Ministry of Health)
• Agency within the Ministry of Health, which aims to promote the development and use of ICT and
networks in the field of health. It acts as an observatory for new trends, innovation and monitoring of
emerging initiatives and provides services for the standardisation and accreditation of products.
• The fact that the health sector in Catalonia covers 100% of citizens within a framework of universal and
public coverage, together with the involvement of a variety of agents, organisations, suppliers and
subsidiary industries, puts the health sector in an excellent position to act as an economic innovator and
energising influence in the use of new technologies.
• Key projects:
i-SISS: Health information interoperability & standards, Electronic Health Record (EHR), Care pathways
management, mHealth solutions for citizens’ access to Personal Health Folder (PHF)
Unwired: mobile Health (mHealth) solutions for heart failure
• Agency for Healthcare Quality and Evaluation of Catalonia (Aquas) is a public entity ascribed to the
Ministry of Health of the Generalitat of Catalonia. Aquas mission is to generate relevant knowledge to
contribute to improving the quality, safety and sustainability of the health system in Catalonia.
• The mission of the Aqua projects in 3 areas:
1-Evaluation to assess structures, processes and outcomes in areas such as eHealth, health
technology, the quality of health care, the social impact of research and pharmacy
2-The Observatory of Catalonia Health System generates information facilitates accountability and
improved decision making through transparency, evaluation and benchmarking.
3-Innovation and business development to promote innovation in the field of health
AQuAS (Ministry of Health)

Parc de Salut Mar ∑
• Barcelona MAR Health Park Consortium characteristic and, in parallel, differentiating element that sets it
apart from other similar healthcare institutes, is the diversity of its portfolio of healthcare services,
encompassing all levels of healthcare services: acute diseases, social-public health, mental health and
primary care.
• The plurality of management formulas and the development of technological and strategic alliances with
other centres in the city and in Catalonia, grant it a distinguished role in fostering entrepreneurial business
policies in the healthcare sector.
Hospital Sant Pau (University Autonoma de
Barcelona)
• The hospital has distinguished itself in the healthcare provided in many fields, making it a reference centre in
several specialities. The centre attends over 35,000 admissions each year and more than 145,000
emergencies. Approximately 350,000 people are visited at the ambulatory services annually and the day
hospital attends over 75,000 users. There are 136 day hospital points, 644 beds and 21 surgical rooms.
• Teaching and training programmes at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau cover many levels, comprising
the UAB (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) Faculty of Medicine Teaching Unit, the University School of
Nursing, participation in the State Residency Programmes to train specialists, continuing education, etc
• Star project: m-Resist: mobile Health (mHealth) for patients with treatment-resistant schizophrenia
Hospital Clinic (Barcelona University)
• Hospital founded in 1906 that belongs to the Catalan Public Hospital Network (XHUP). Includes almost all
medical and surgical specialties, and are active in the areas of Patient Care, Research and Education,
either directly or through related companies.
• The hospital has a long-standing tradition of research, and is recognised as a institution of reference, both
domestically and internationally. Asignificant part of the hospital's research activities are coordinated by the
Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS (link is external)).
• The research projects are managed and administrated by the Fundació Clínic per a la Recerca Biomèdica
(FCRB).
Hospital Vall
d’Hebron
• The Vall d'Hebron University Hospital is the largest hospital complex in Catalonia and one of the largest in
Spain. It has a team of around 7,000 professionals and a budget of 579 million euros
• With more than 1,100 beds, the hospital is committed to a management model that places patients at the
centre of its actions, including training and research, and promotes participation in Catalan and Spanish
research projects.
