Challenges Related to IEC 61850
The standard enables distributed packet-connected control architecture, which is necessary to be able to enable local electricity production. It can also increase the system reliability. However, it is a big technological step for the automation systems.
The standard allows many different options. As a consequence, the vendor spesific solutions can still be an issue and the compatibility between different vendors is currently not fully guaranteed.

Creation of core criterias to enable the compatibility between different vendors.
Classification and instruction of interface requirements such that the automation requirements are filled.
Reasearch regarding the compatibility of the files created by the software tools of different vendors.
A simple conversion middleware will be made for the most important interfaces, if needed.
Interfacing with wireless communication (long distance links, wireless sensor networks, etc.)
