Glass-Lined Steel Advantages
Corrosion Resistance― Acids and alkalis
― Exceptions: hydrofluoric acid and hot concentrated phosphoric acid
Anti-Adhesion― Many substances that stick to metal will not stick to
glass
Purity― High quality standards for food and drug applications
High operating temperatures and pressures― -50°C to >260°C
― FV to 100/150 psig
Heat Transfer Capability― Ability to add or remove heat to the batch

Materials used for glass-lined steel repair
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) – Plastic material inert to virtually all chemicals– Superior non-stick properties– Material used for nozzle repair sleeves for glass-lined
reactors Tantalum
– Tough, ductile metal– Used in corrosion resistant applications in environments
no other metal can withstand (resistance very similar to glass)
– Often used with glass-lined steel reactors as patches, dip tubes, piping and overhead condensers.
