ONLINE LEARNING & CREDIT RECOVERY
What is “credit recovery”?
Credit recovery programs are typically part of the alternative education offering in a school or district, designed to allow students to “recover” course credits from classes they have missed or failed.
Credit Recovery Facts
• “Off Track” students are 3.5 times more likely to drop out than “On Track” students
• More than 75% of students who fail a single class in 9th
grade have an overall GPA of less than 2.0
• The graduation rate for students failing two classes drops to 68% compared to 86% for those with no failures
Data from Early Warning Systems that Support Students At Risk of Dropping Out of High School – The Center for Comprehensive School Reform and Improvement, Research Brief 2008.
Urban Data Examples…
• More than 50% of Chicago freshmen fail a course
• More than 40% miss more than a month of school in the freshman year
