Gerunds
· Ends in –ing or –ed (past tense of irregular verbs)

· Is always an adjective
· Function: predicate adjective (after a LV) or a regular adjective
Examples- DO NOT USE THESE!
My mom is amazing. (PA)
The frozen pipe burst. (adjective-past tense)
A raging snowstorm struck the city (adjective- present tense)
Participles
· To + verb
· Is not the verb in the sentence!
· Function: noun (S, PN, DO); or as a modifier- adjective (describes a noun); adverb (describes verbs, adjectives & other adverbs)

Louise decided to go tomorrow. (DO = noun)
To graduate a year early is my goal. (S = noun)
The place to visit is the library. (adjective)
The novel is easy to read. (adverb)
Infinitives
