Main target:

• provide UV protection and increase the insulation life expectancy

• reduce risk of CUI

• protect insulation against mechanical impact

• protect from salt water, extreme weather conditions

Arma Chek provide exceptionally high resistance against UV, oil, chemical and extreme weather.

3

Arma Chek helps to reduce the risk of CUI

Offshore applications Marine and ship building Petrochemical industries Energy plants & storage facilities

CUI = Corrosion under Insulation / The Challenge CUI is often difficult to identify because it is hidden beneath insulation

and jacketing until it becomes a more serious problem…

how does CUI occur?- insulation covering is breached- water ingress into the insulation- water and oxygen reach the metal surface

5

Corrosion – mechanism

6

• wet corrosionpresence of moisture (water, humidity) containing oxygen

• galvanic corrosioncontact (also through wet insulation) of two metals with different electrode potentials;metal cladding can be affected by this type of corrosion

• Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) occurs in austenitic stainless steel if exposed simultaneously to the three trigger factors: - stresses within the metal - moisture - halogen ions (chloride, bromide, etc.)

• rust product: Fe(OH)2 and Fe(OH)3

• Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) is accelerated by: - availability of oxygen - high temperature - concentration of dissolved ions.

Additional consequences of CUI

7

CUI – what cost?

8

• The highest incidence of leaks in the refining and chemical industries are due to CUI and not process corrosion.

• Between 40% and 60% of piping maintenance costs are CUI related.

• The problems caused by CUI caused the oil & gas industry to consider moving away from mineral wool insulation.
