Synopsis of Course Contents This course comprises materials and methods that help students
acquire basic proficiency in the English language in terms of all four
skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing). Students will be
exposed to and taught to apply skills and strategies that will help
them use the language in their daily/social life and in the workplace.
These include engaging in spoken interaction for social and
workplace communication, understanding and producing short texts
such as emails and newspaper articles, making short and simple oral
presentations, and working in groups. Methods, materials and tasks
will be as authentic as possible, thus an integrated approach that
incorporates all four language skills will be adopted. Students will
also be taught how to make effective use of the thesaurus and
dictionaries. Emphasis will be placed on the use of appropriate,
accurate and effective language (verbal and non-verbal) and audio-
visual aids.

Synopsis of Course Contents This course comprises materials and methods that help students
understand and apply principles and practices of critical thinking,

solutions that are creative and effective. The course is based on the
premise that all these skills can be developed by means of teaching
