AN EVENING WITH AURTHOR
PIPER KERMAN “ORANGE
IS THE NEW BLACK”
CLIFTON PARK – An Evening with Author Piper Kerman, “Orange Is the New Black” - The Friends of the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Li-brary and the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library are co-sponsoring an Evening with Author Piper Kerman on Mon., September 22 at 7pm at the Library. Ms. Ker-man wrote the #1 New York Times Best Seller, “Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison”. With a career, boyfriend, and a lov-ing family, Piper barely re-sembles the reckless young woman who delivered a suitcase of drug money ten years before. But that past has caught up with her. Convicted and sentenced to fifteen months at the in-famous federal correctional facility in Danbury, CT, the well-heeled Smith College alumna is now an inmate. From her first strip search to her final release, Kerman learns to navigate this strange world with its strictly enforced codes of behavior and arbitrary rules. This event is free and open to the public. Registration is REQUIRED to attend. To register visit www.cphlibrary.org then Calendar of Events or call the Library at 371-8622. Books will be available for purchase at the program by The Open Door Bookstore.

HOPE TO SUPPORT
VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
CLIFTON PARK – Members of The Chamber of Southern Saratoga County’s Women In Business Committee are reaching out to the commu-nity for help with their chari-table initiative, Backpacks of Hope, which supports moth-ers and their children utiliz-ing the services of Domes-tic Violence and Rape Crisis Services of Saratoga County (DVRC). Backpacks of Hope is part of the Committee’s Bas-kets of Hope initiative, which has been providing women entering the Saratoga Coun-ty Domestic Violence Shelter with baskets of personal care items. The backpacks and school supplies meet the needs of the children who are also affected by domes-tic violence. The Women in Business Committee seeks donations of back-to-school supplies such as backpacks, notebooks, binders, pens, pencils, crayons, markers, glue sticks, etc. Donations of personal care items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste and other toiletries are also welcomed year round. Any-one who wishes to partici-pate in this worthy program can do so by bringing do-nations to The Chamber of Southern Saratoga County, located at 15 Park Avenue in Clifton Park (behind Shop-pers World Plaza). Questions about the program should be directed to Liz Roggen-buck at 371-7748 x108.

LOOKING FOR MEANINGFUL VOL-UNTEER WORK?
SARATOGA REGION - I am I can is a 501(c)(3) organization that was created to mentor girls in grades 9 - 12. Programs provide needed encouragement, guidance and advocacy to students as they navigate their high school years and move toward post-graduation goals. We are seeking adult female mentors to work with students on a weekly basis. As a men-tor you would spend time with and get to know your stu-dent, while developing a relationship that provides support and guidance. If you are a recently retired woman looking for some meaningful volunteer work, this may be for you. This program focuses not as much on job skill mentoring, but more on providing a positive role model in the student’s life. You will help the student to develop core values and “en-courage young women to discover their dreams, to believe in endless possibilities while empowering them to make it happen”. The organization is currently looking for mentors in the Clifton Park to Glens Falls areas. Immediate needs are to support girls in Hudson Falls, South Glens Fall, Glens Falls and Ballston Spa school districts. If you have time on a weekly or bi-weekly basis and would like to have a positive impact on a girl in your community, please contact Founder, Avon Scherff at 518-688-3010 x102, or email [email protected].

Carmel, fruitful vine splendor of Heaven, Blessed Mother of the Son of God, Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me, herein you are my mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to answer me in this necessity. There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, show me herein you are my mother. Oh, Mary con-ceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3x). Holy Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Sweet mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Holy Spirit, you who solve all problems, light all roads so that I can attain my goal, you who gave me the divine gift to forgive and forget all evil against me and that in all instances in my life you are with me, I want in this short prayer to thank you for all things as you confirm once again that I never want to be separated from you in eternal glory. Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine. The person must say this prayer 3 consecutive days, after 3 days the request will be granted. This prayer must be published after the favor is granted.
