Helsinki Airport (HEL)
Life Cycle Services by Cinia
Helsinki Airport (HEL)Customer Challenge: Efficient management of human resources to ensure
undisturbed safe air operations in a rapidly changing operational environment.
CaseTravel information throughout the journey
Case: Travel information throughout the journey
Customer case:
Helsinki Airport enjoys an excellent reputation for providing free wifi across the terminals. Seeking to enhance the customer
experience, Helsinki Airport asked us to expand the wifi coverage to shuttle buses operating on the apron. The airport’s aim
was to provide a seamless experience to the traveller.
Solution:
We set out to provide the fastest connection available, we succeeded. We built an information system that delivers bespoke
information targeted to onboard travelers. The information includes connecting flight data, suggestions for shopping and
leisure activity depending on connection times, arrival halls, etc.
Passenger Benefits:
Free network connection for passengers upon arrival. Detailed information on the shuttle bus for departing passengers to
ensure simple and seamless onward travel. The traveller is better informed, more relaxed and has more time for shopping,
restaurant visits, entertainment, etc.
Operator benefits:
A constant connection to the airport’s operational systems. A fast and secure communication platform for subsystems like
cctv, people counting, centrally managed PA system, vehicle data gathering and ad-hoc infotainment services.
CaseWinter maintenance
Case: Winter maintenance
Customer case:
Helsinki Airport enjoys a reputation for operating in all weathers. They have the experience and skill
needed to keep the runways, taxiways and apron clear. However, they sought operational improvements in
how this activity was executed.
Solution:
An airport is a place where you should expect the unexpected, things change and events can overwhelm
rigid plans. That’s why we kept flexibility high on the priority list for winter maintenance vehicles, and strove
to give operators clear insight into the activity on the apron. We produced an information and
communication system to provide quidance and information to the driver as well as gathering and
delivering data from the vehicle to the monitoring system.
Benefits:
The winter maintenance process is more efficient when each vehicle operator is aware of what other units
are doing. Supervisors can monitor the real-time situation of operations. Drivers are less stressed and able
to make better decisions on the ground when aware of the context and activities around them.
CaseOverall monitoring and supervision
Case: Overall monitoring and supervision
Customer case:
Cinia provides maintenance services to all major business-critical IT services at Helsinki Airport. This includes cuss, cupps,
sbd, fids, public announcement and so on. Finavia demanded a single clear, real-time view of the status of all their IT
systems.
Solution:
Our solution is based on centralized information indexing and data mining. Initially we provided a view of all of the IT
systems that were under Cinia’s maintenance. With this view supervisors can now:
• Monitor the real-time status of systems,
• Evaluate the impact malfunctions have on passenger processes,
• See the location of the malfunctioning device
• Estimate the repair duration.
The view is not restricted to systems under Cinia’s maintenance, but can easily be expanded to cover all airport systems.
Benefits:
Now the airport operator has a real-time view of the condition and responsiveness of airport IT systems. This enables the
operator to respond quickly and to be constantly aware of possible faults and malfunctions.
