Fluidity - Macau Maritime Museum, Macau 04/2011
In this project, I am asked to develope a mar-itime museum replacing the old one near the site. The site is a triangular site by the inner port of Macau. it is a maritime museum, hence the articulation of the water’s edge is important.
I have started the design by a “wavy” pop-up fabric model, which is stacked up layers of 3d-curve wave planes. It suggests a whole new organisation of a museum experience. the model eventually developed into a model with spactial contiunuity and fluidity. It is dynamic because of the floor height is changing through out the journey in the museum. It is impor-tant as there will be boats of one to one scale and other large scale exhibits in the museum.
Visitors start their journey by walking up the external stairs facing the sea. Then they get in exhibition spaces on the third floor. After that, they go into the aqurium gallery on second floor. They can walk around the exhibitions on the second floor and eventually get to the cafe and library, which brings people to the water.I intended to blur the boundary between floors, to create a contiunuity of experience.

This is a planting workshop project for the abo-retum of Lincoln, UK. In the group master plan, we divided the park into three parts. The upper part is for hospital patients and elderly. It is for leisure and relaxing. The middle part is music themed, and the lower part is for children. My project is located at the lower part, which is proposingly a green house. However, I expand-ed the programs of a greenhouse to make it a education workshop about planting for the kids.
The planting workshop consist of different plant-ing spaces. For instant, plants in hot-dry climate, temperate climate, wetland plants, mosses and ferns are planted in different spaces. These spaces are bespoked to create the environment for specific plants through passive environmen-tal control, and at the same time to create a very rich spatial experience for the children. I try to incorparate “play structures” into the design, to let the children outside of the planting work-shop play and run around, and interact visually with people inside the building. The enclosed planting spaces are pulled apart to create in-ternal spaces for the play structure, that makes the “journey” more exciting and interesting. Detailed Wall Section Exploded Isometric

Site Plan
This is a boat builder’s workshop located in Lincoln, UK. The site is just beside the Bray-ford Pool, surrounded by boat-related and water activies. The building consist of three parts: the accomodation, shop front and the workshop. The workshop is divided into two areas: one for ma-terial and storage, and one for boat assembly.
I started the project by looking at the boat building process, from it i found the boat as-semble space is a very important space in a boat workshop. It is the space where workers spend most of their time during the boat buid-ing process. At the same time, the boat starts to form the shape from pieces. To emphasize the importance of the boat assembly space, I used three different methods to express the hierachy of space. The boat assembly space is transpar-ent and in a large volume, while other spaces in contrast are opaque and in a smaller volume. Furthermore, their architectural language are different. The boat assembly space is minmal while other space are fluid. All pedestrians who passby the building can see the process of boat making through the glass box. This is the best way to advertise the boat builder’s workshop.
The fluid form of the remaining part of the buil-ng is inspired by the planking process in boat building: boat builders make use of flat materials and simple methds to create a complex 3D form.

Cultural Exchange - Architecture School at Central, Hong Kong 09/2012
This is an architectural school project in Central, Hong Kong. It is a traditional and historic place. Most citizens don’t know what architects do and how architecture school work. On the other hand, architecture students also need to understand the neighbourhood community. My design aims at creating a platform for cultural exchange between them. I realize cultural exchange should be like nutrition exchange among cells and organs. Both of them have large surface areas to facilitate the exchange process, just as leave vein and blood vessels network.
The site is on a slope surrounded by many after-war buildings, “Tong Lau”. In my design, I create many internal circulation to connect different street levels. It also allows various public activities take place. The public can interact with staff and students of the architecture school in the network of internal circulation. The programs of architecture school is arranged accoding to the degree of interaction with public, so as to invite public to understand the school.

2.5 DimensionalOtakus are people who are addicted to animations, mangas and games. These products are known as 2 dimensional world (二次元) because they are mainly showed in flat media. The fictional world of 2-dimensional is a world full of fantasy. There are high school students trying to save the world, female Kung-fu masters and people using magic. On the other hand, the reality in Tokyo, 3 dimensional world (三次元), is a stressful place. High density, long working hours and small living space. This makes people want to escape from 3-dimensional world to two dimensional world.Our design concept is to act as a bridge between these two world. People from the 3-dimensional go to the 2d world by watching animations in the replay centre. We want to create an experience that visitors may confuse whether they’re in the 2 dimensional world.The design is based on a three dimensional grid, the grid from connecting several layers of triangles, to create grid. The grid can generate totally eight type of surfaces. It makes a pixelate composition of surface in a 3d way, but has the quality of scenes in the 2d-world. These surfaces can be used as projection surface to create a surreal feeling, like in manga scenes. The surfaces then compose to be the crystalline modules of replay rooms, hovering in a big volume. At the top they gather to be a big mass – the auditorium, which can be a big anime cinema and performing space for Akihabara idols, like AKB48. The surfaces at the bottom creates the shop and admin areas, are composed almost like a mountain. People can enjoy exploring in the 3d composition of the spaces.

Destruction - Outdoor Gallery, Macau 03/2011

The aim of this project is to design a outdoor gallery for street art in an in-fill site in Macau which is created by demolishion of the old city fabric from time to time. In this situation, espe-cially for the rebellion characteristic of street art, I don’t want to celebrate the redevelopement of the city. Instead, I want to freeze the design in a state of demolishing. Hence my approach to the design is to emphasise the tearing and peeling of the pave and the walls, in order to make a “memorial of destruction”.

Temporary Exhibition, Central, Hong Kong 03/2011
I am asked to design a temperary exhibition for Dr. Sun Yat Sen, the founder and the first president of Republic of China.
Dr. Sun’s have a tough life of Revolution. Visitor may experiencing Dr. Sun’s life at different stage by experiencing different spatial quality.
Using membrane as material, it could create very 3D form and space while maintaining the mobility for the temperary exhibition.

This is my first architectural project. This furniture is composed of two pieces: the pavilion and benches. They are located in coastal area in Causeway Bay. I was inspired by different forms of wave. Pedestrains prefer gathering around the water edge than sitting on bench offshore. Therefore I design a pavilion of two levels. It provides a cover for pedestrains on the ground level and a better view when people walk up to the upper levell.

Borderless - Youth Hostel, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong 11/2011
This is a youth hostel and community hall project. Both tourist from different countries and local people will use the facilities there. The site is an extension to Blake’s Garden. It is on hillside and has exit to different levels. The project aims to serve as a hub, in order to connect different street levels and allow vaious activities take place. It does not have any “main fascade” and “main entrance”. Instead, it has many entrances and semi-indoor area to blur the border between the youth hostel and the surrounding streets.
The container for space is not the site boundary but the edge of surrounding buildings. The roof of com-munity hall serves as an extension to the football court stand, and one of the entrances to the youth hostel.

I study the proportion of the existing amphitheatre in oder to create a direct sunlight on the stairs. and diffuse to sitting area. Therefore, I put a 3D truss above the stairs. to create openings. To let the inner space look cleaner, the structure is exposed to exterior.

Lantern Design 09/2011This is a lantern design project. My idea is to cre-ate an interesting lighting effect that it has two distinct but continous spaces. When one space is lightened up, the other space is still totally dark.
To start with, I study the mathematical model, gyroid. It has two spaces that are continuos but not interconnected. I develop it into a modular system. The lantern can expand infinitely when the module repeats itself. I reuse aluminium can to construct the lantern. It has two surfac-es. One side is colourful and the other side is plain. When the colourful side is lightened up, it can reflect colourful lighting effect. At the same time the other side remains totally dark.
