Pridevniki na-ING: oseba oziroma stvar sama povzroča to, kar beseda izraža.
NPR.: we had an exciting evening. (Imeli smo vznemirljiv večer. – Večer, ki vznemirja.)
Pridevniki na –ED: osebek je pri tem pasiven, nekdo drug povzroča dejanje.
NPR.: They were excited. (Bili so vznemirjeni. – Nekdo/nekaj jih je vzemiril/-o.)
