• A map is a flat representation of Earth’s curved surface.
• To transfer the info on a spherical globe to a 2D map scientists make PROJECTIONS.

Reading a Map
• Compass Rose==shows the cardinal directions, North, East, South, West (generally North points upward. Note an actual compass points to Geomagnetic North)
• Parallels are side-to-side• Meridians are top to bottom• Use legend and scale to interpret symbols and
distance on a map
