Fabric production in India increased from 5,856 million sq. meters in 1951 to 64,612 million square meters in 2013-14 at a CAGR of 4%. There has been a significant change in the pattern of production during this period. In 1951, mill sector had a share of 74% in total fabric production. However, decline in the weaving capacity in the mill sector from 196,000 looms in 1951 to only 51,000 looms in 2013-14 and strong growth of decentralized powerloom sector led to marginalisation of share of organised mill sector
