The Canon 5D Mark II once the recording formats options have been selected.

Start with top and rotate dial anti clockwise left to right

Rotate to where the M position is and clicks into place and press the button on right hand side with red spot. This is the record start and stop button.

Canon 550D / 600D Top and Rear View
As for the 60D, the 550D and 600D with main difference everything is on the right and you rotate dial right to left clock wise.
