Introduction
A college is known through the flavour of its academic wisdom. This feat basically has
twofold manifestation: i) A teaching learning process which leads to outstanding
achievements of the students, ii) A remarkable research orientation of the teachers.
From both these points the reputation of Burdwan Raj College has been pervaded by
and surcharged with the accolades it received for about 150 years. Subsequently,it has
produced a galaxy of eminent personalities in various fields of arts, science, commerce
and not the least, politics and administration. The long list of luminous alumni speaks
highly about the College, its aims, objectives and achievements.
Burdwan Raj College was established in 1881 and it has a close connection with the
Maharajas of Burdwan, viz., Tej Chand, Mahatab Chand and Aftab Chand and others.
The royal patronage was taken over by the Govt. of West Bengal in 1956 under the
sponsoring scheme and the College was affiliated to the University of Burdwan in 1960.
It runs three shifts – Morning (only General – Arts & Science), Day (Hons. and General
in Arts & Science) and Evening (Commerce–Hons. & Genl.). 21 Hons. courses are
taught here in addition to B.B.A. (H) and B.C.A. (H) thereby opening up diverse fields
of knowledge with flashes of delightful wisdom. It is at present a constituent College of
Burdwan University as it offers P.G. programme of studies in Bengali.
The location of this College deserves special mention. Both Burdwan Medical
College and Hospital and The University of Burdwan are adjacent to this College. It is
not very far away from Burdwan Railway Station and Bus stoppage. These indicate its
communication friendly feature. Situated amidst the vast serenity of 17 acres of land on
the banks of Shyamsayer, Burdwan Raj College beholds the central attention of this
historic town.
The fame of Burdwan Raj College has been so widespread that it is needless to
mention that this institution always instils values and confidence that transform
learners to the acme of their achievements to become better human beings. Mere
education for education’s sake is not our goal; education with a mission to strengthen
human bond in the larger perspective of the globe is our motto:
“sahṛdayaṃsāṃmanasyamavidveṣaṃkṛṇomivaḥ”. [“I make you emotionally
sympathetic to each other; intellectually of the same mind and free from mutual
jealousy”]. Thus, the College strives always for the ascent and excellence of learners in
order to establish them in life.

To calculate the percentage of marks at 10th level consider aggregate marks in
Madhyamik without additional marks.
To calculate the percentageof marks at 12th level, add marks of best 5 subjects studied.
In case of CBSE and ICSE (10 standard), if marks of Board exam are available, add
uptothe final aggregate. If marks of Board Exam are not available, the marks given by
the Institute and approved by the concerned Board will be taken into account for
calculation of percentage of marks.
In case, marks are not awarded but grade points (GP) are awarded, GP is to be
converted into marks on the 100-point scale. If letter grades with range of marks for the
letter grades are given, then the mid value of the range of a particular letter grade will
be considered for determination of the percentage of marks.
Marks obtained in Environmental Studies will be considered for merit point
only if such subject (i.e., Environmental Study) is compulsory elective or
optional elective.
In case of CBSE and ISC (12 standard), consider best 5 subjects and find the aggregate
marks.
If only one language is available, it is doubled to calculate the aggregate marks. In that
case, put the marks obtained in First Language also in the column specified for Second
Language.
Grade point in the merit list will be calculated in accordance with the merit
formulation criteria for different honours subjects as well as admission fee are
mentioned in the following table.
