LAGUNA CARÉN ACADEMIC PROJECT Conceptual Approach
National development projection
The University of Chile, founded in 1842 has played a key
and fundamental role in the construction of the Republic, a
role that was fully complied until 1973. Now the University
must contribute towards a new thinking on the economic
development of Chile and the role that the State and
institutions must play. It must anticipate and guide a shift
from an extractive economy based on limited exploitation of
natural resources towards a knowledge-based economy
with all the social and political expectations that are
involved.
The Laguna Carén Academic Project must connect to the
public bodies and take responsibility for critical support
areas such as seismic monitoring and disaster response;
telemedicine; development of alternative energy resourses;
monitoring and preservation of biodiversity; indicators of
social reality; hydric resources; new technologies for
agriculture and management of desertification, among many
others.
enabling the state universities to work as a
system that encourages local companies
interested in the promotion of the
technological and scientific development of
the country.
