2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) is one of the most widely used herbicides in the world today. By stimulating different responses in a plant, depending on the level of concentration, 2,4-D is a regulator for plant growth at low rates and an herbicide at higher rates. The plant’s natural metabolism becomes distorted due to 2,4-D’s mode of action. Specifically, the plant sugar is prevented from moving to the roots, which then starves the plant when the food reserves are used up, resulting in complete dieback.
