“Your brand is what your [customer] thinks when he or she hears [or sees] your brand name. It’s everything the public thinks they know about you – both factual and emotional. Your brand exists only in someone’s mind.” – Jerry McLaughlin, Forbes

Your brand is made up of perceptions, reputation, experiences, ideas, identities.
Your brand is affected by your product or service quality, your employees, your marketing efforts, your business practices, your geographic location, your philanthropic efforts…
…and just about anything else under the sun.
Your Brand

Your brand isn’t a logo or a business card or letterhead stationary. But those items should communicate your brand.
Everything about your business should communicate luxury (or whimsy or inclusiveness or flavor, etc.).
Your Brand

Your brand should never be an afterthought.
If you’re not branding your business, someone else will (your customers, your competition).

In this day and age, your brand can be built or destroyed by Internet reviews (Yelp, Amazon, TripAdvisor, Community boards, Facebook).
And it can happen lightning fast!

Being good isn’t good enough (because everyone says they’re good).
Develop a brand identity that’s simple, unique and focused.
Don’t try to be all things to all people. Stay the course. Don’t change horses in mid-stream when it comes to branding. Be who you are with all your might!

When you are developing a brand, ask yourself:
What are my business’s goals? What does my business value? What makes us remarkable? What motivates us? What are we passionate about?
Demonstrate the answers in everything you do.

Be a purple cow* Purple cows do not have a
brand identity crisis and they get noticed.

Love your brand and live it 24-hours a day.
Because if you don’t believe in your brand, nobody else will.
