This is a one-day seminar. For more complete training please see ES16 .

    Length: 1 day

    CEU Credits: 0.7

    Course hours: 8:00 a.m.4:00 p.m.

    Description:

Boiler explosions have resulted in loss of major facilities as well as

loss of life. With emphasis in industry on process safety, the design

of Burner Management Systems (BMSs) is now more important than

ever. This seminar provides a quick overview of the requirements for

single and multiple boiler burners using the 85 Code.

    You will be able to:

Define resources for defining design criteria

    Evaluate considerations for BMS design

Identify the primary causes of furnace explosions

Explain primary shutdowns as defined by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 85 Code

Discuss pre-firing purge requirements for both single- and multiple-burner boilers

Discuss alarms, interlocks, and emergency shutdown systems

Discuss the format of individual safety standards and how to use them appropriately

Discuss the NFPA 85 Boiler and Combustion Systems Hazards Code, other safety-related standards, and

    how they apply to BMS

    You will cover:

Current NFPA 85 Boiler and Combustion Systems Code: Format | Use | Cross-Referencing Information |

Application to Different Types of Boilers

    ANSI/ISA84.01-2004 standard: Application to Boilers

BMS design: Considerations | Requirements for Independence | Requirements for Logical Solver

Single- and Multiple-Burner Boilers: Permissives | Shut downs | Alarms | Purge Requirements |

    Requirements Comparison

Definitions: Safety Instrumented System (SIS) and Safety Integrity Level (SIL) as Applied to Boilers

If you wish to register offline, download the Training Registration Form, complete, and return to ISA with your

    payment.
