Cocaine found in carA 30-year-old man from Canoe is facing new
drug and weapons charges after being stopped
by police Sept. 21 near the intersection of Lake-
shore Drive and 4th Street NE.
The driver of the 2007 Chrysler Intrepid was
stopped by the RCMP, as he was known not to
have a valid driver’s licence and the vehicle had
no insurance. The suspect was found to have
been released from custody under a number
of conditions for pending cocaine traffi ck-
ing charges relating to an incident in August.
RCMP searched the vehicle and located several
cell phones, bear spray, a knife and a hatchet, as
well as a quantity of cocaine.
Jesse L. Woodsford was held in custody until
a court appearance Sept. 24. He will appear
again on the charges of possession of cocaine
for the purpose of traffi cking, breaching release
conditions and possessing weapons contrary to
a prohibition order on Nov. 9.
Grow no moreRCMP went looking for electrical theft, but
were likely not surprised to discover a mari-
juana growing operation at a residence at 2748
Tranquil Place in Blind Bay.
During the course of the search, approximately
300 marijuana plants were seized and the grow-
ing operation was dismantled. At the time of the
search, no one was found inside the residence.
Legitimate organizationOn Sept. 20, a citizen contacted police con-
cerned about a possible fraud, after she was
phoned by a canvasser requesting donations for
police drug education programs. RCMP have
confi rmed that the Canadian Police Association
is legitimately canvassing for such donations.
The RCMP has no affi liation to this associa-
tion, however, and offers no comment on the
program for which donations are being sought.
Tools takenThere was a theft of power tools from a shed in
the 2900 block of Brown Road. A compressor,
air nailer, and power saws were taken.

RCMP nab armed robbery suspect
Police were able to outrun and ar-
rest an armed robbery suspect who is
alleged to have robbed a number of
local businesses, citizens and tourists
on Sunday.
Jeremy Mazur, 30, is currently in
police custody facing a series of new
charges. At the time of his arrest,
Mazur was awaiting trial for separate
incidents of uttering threats, mis-
chief, theft, and possession of stolen
property.
The new charges relate to incidents
which began Saturday, Sept. 26 when
the Mac’s Convenience Store was
robbed at 11:30 p.m. A man bran-
dishing a knife demanded money
from the clerk and fl ed on foot.
The following day, a second rob-
bery took place at the Petro Canada.
A man armed with a knife demanded
money from that clerk and later stole
liquor from the Hideaway Pub. Po-
lice also believe this same man was
responsible for a break-in to a resi-
dence in the area, as well as attempt-
ing knife point robberies of employ-
ees and tourists at the Best Western
motel.
Police chased the suspect on foot
from behind the motel and managed
to apprehend him a short distance
away on the railway tracks.
RCMP recovered property stolen
in these crimes.
As part of Mazur’s previous bail
release conditions, he was instructed
to “keep the peace and be of good
behaviour.”
