1. Overview of waterproofing System/Cross-section of waterproofing layer
- Double layers waterproofing system of asphalt membrane and asphalt sheet utilizing combination of bituminous
rubberized asphalt membrane waterproofing material with asphalt compound as primary component mixed with
synthetic rubber, synthetic macromolecular resin adhesives and inorganic filler of excellent durability, and asphalt
waterproofing sheet attached with polyester non-woven fabric
2. Characteristics of waterproofing system
Item Characteristics
Asphalt Mastic membrane
waterproofing layer
‐ membrane waterproofing layer fully adhered with concrete surface with adhesiveness of
asphalt mastic causing no separating or peeling
‐ Gel‐type membrane waterproofing layer responding even fine crack of structure
Asphalt sheet waterproofing layer
attached with polyester non‐woven
fabric
‐ Forming membrane sheet double waterproofing layer fully adhered and integrated with
asphalt mastic membrane waterproofing layer by impregnating asphalt mastic into
polyester non‐woven fabric
‐ Protecting waterproofing sheet from being broken
Adhering and reinforcing
waterproofing sheet joints with
asphalt mastic, and enhancing
water‐tightness of joints
‐ Preventing defects from heat bonding of waterproofing sheet joints (e.g., oxidation of
asphalt compound, and reduction of water‐tightness)
‐ Enhancing water‐tightness of waterproofing sheet joints
Easy location of defective section,
and simple repair
‐ It is not allowed of flowing water under the membrane sheet double waterproofing
layer fully adhered with concrete surface without separating or peeling.
‐ Easy location of defective section, and simple repair
Note : Asphalt materials with longest history, and excellent durability and reliability are used for waterproofing
materials after comparing advantages and disadvantages of conventional waterproofing system.
Adaptation of Double layers waterproofing system of asphalt membrane and asphalt sheet is the best
alternative considering easy installation with cold system, and easy location and simple repair of
defects.

membrane and double sheet waterproofing effect
through full adhesion and integration with concrete
surface without separating or peeling effect
3. Scope of applications of waterproofing systemItem Applicable section
Architectural structure - Waterproofing rooftop, underground exterior wall, and top slab of underground parking lot
Civil engineering structure
- Exterior waterproofing of underground concrete structure such as subway, underground roadway and utility tunnel
Note : Asphalt mastic is utilized as filling agent on expansion joints of concrete structure.
4. Construction sequence
① Arranging and cleaning surface
Checkpoints
‐ Smoothing the surface ‐ Removing foreign material such as earth, dust and sand from the surface for guaranteeing full adhesion of asphalt mastic membrane waterproofing layer with the surface
② Reinforcing waterproofing layer at waterproofing defective area and coating primer
CheckPoint
‐ Using asphalt mastic for coating and reinforced sheet to reinforce areas subject to defective waterproofing such as construction joints, concrete structure cracks, corners, edges, pipe & drain tube ‐ Reinforcing waterproofing layer on concrete crack section ‐ Reinforcing waterproofing layer by uniformly coating asphalt mastic around pipe and drain with gloved hands ‐ Coating asphalt primer on the entire surface with roller
③ Coating asphalt mastic for membrane
CheckPoint - Thoroughly coating asphalt mastic on the entire surface with trowel (thickness: 2mm)
④ Laying MAS/asphalt waterproofing sheet
CheckPoint
‐ Laying MAS/asphalt waterproofing sheet on asphalt mastic membrane waterproofing layer simultaneously with coating asphalt mastic membrane waterproofing material, and fully adhering the sheet on the asphalt mastic membrane waterproofing layer.
⑤ Reinforcing coating of asphalt mastic on waterproofing sheet joints
CheckPoint
‐ Applying thin coat of asphalt mastic on waterproofing sheet joints (width: 10cm)
‐ Applying reinforcing coat of asphalt mastic in 2~3 mm thickness on 5cm of the ends of
waterproofing joints (enhancing water‐tightness of joints)
‐ Applying reinforcing asphalt mastic on the ends of waterproofing layer in 2~3mm thickness
for full adhesion with concrete surface
⑥ Laying protection material of waterproofing layer, and placing pressing concrete
CheckPoint
‐ Checking waterproofing play for any damage during placing pressing concrete and back‐filling

7. Records of adoption of waterproofing system
- Excellent quality of waterproofing materials and system have fully been validated through supplying them to
some 2,100 construction sites as of June, 2009 including; Hyundai Engineering & Construction, Samsung
Engineering & Construction, Daewoo Engineering & Construction, GS Engineering & Construction, Lotte
Construction, SK Construction, Kyungnam Engineering & Construction, Daerim Industry, Hanhwa Construction,
Daewoo Automobile Sales Construction, Namkwang Construction, and Keyryong Construction.
‐ Adoption records for exterior waterproofing construction of underground concrete structures (e.g., power tunnel
and underground concrete box structure), and new and expansion constructions of schools and military facilities
‐ Korea Housing Corp. expanding adoption to whole construction sites recognizing ease of construction, cost
effectiveness and quality through trail adoption for three years
‐ Conventional three‐fold‐asphalt‐eight‐layer‐waterproofing system adopted since 1910’s and asphalt sheet waterproofing
system since 1970’s have been showing frequent defectives such as deficient water‐tightness on sheet joints, and
separation of waterproofing layer from concrete surface. Improved Double layers waterproofing system of asphalt
membrane and asphalt sheet is recognized of its quality, and exported to the Southeaster Asia countries such as
Taiwan, Viet Nam and China.
/ Replacement adoption for asphalt sheet waterproofing, polyurethane membrane waterproofing, soluble
rubberized asphalt membrane waterproofing system / Refer to the adoption records.
