Introduction: •. " . • . " '.. •... .• . .... '. .. .. , ". I,Mental health IS term used ta describe either a level of cognitive or emotional well-being or an

absence, ofa mental disorder. from perspectives of the discipline o/positive psychology or holism rr1entalhealth may inClude an individual's ability to enjoy life. and procure. a balance between life activities andefforts to achieve. psychological resilience. The World Health Organization defines mental health as "a 'state

. of well'being.in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the nornial stres~es .oflife, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community". It waspreviously stated that there was no one "Official" Definition of mental health. Cultural differences, subjectiveassessments, and co~peting professional theories all affect how "mental health" is defined. ' ..•.. 1. .

In the mld-19 century, William Sweeller was the first to. clearly define the term "mental'hygiene",which can be seen as the precursor 'to contemporary approaches to work on promoting positive':mentalhealth. Isaac Ray, one of thirteen founders of the American Psychiatric Association, further defined'mentalhygiene as an art to preserve the mind against incidents and influences which would inhibit or destroy itsenergy, quality or development At the beginning of the 20th century, Clifford Beers founded the NatianalCammittee for Mental Hygiene and opened the first outpatient mental health clinic in the United State. i.Mental wellbeing . '. ..' 1

Mental health can be seen asa continuum, where an individual's mental health may have manydifferent possible values. Mental wellness in generally viewed as a positive attribute, such that a person. canreach enhanced levels of mental health, even if they do not have any diagnosable mental health condition. This definition of mental health highlights emotional well-being, the capacity to live a full and creative' life, and the flexibility to deal with life's inevitable challenges. Many therapeutic systems and self-help books offermethods and philosophies espousing strategies and techniques vaunted as effective for further imprbvingthe mental wellness of otherwise healthy people. Positive psychology in increasingly praminent in m~ntalhealth. A holistic model of mental health generally includes concepts based upon anthropological, educational, psychological, religious and sociological perspectives, as well as theoretical perspectives frompersonality, social, clinical, health and developmental psychology. :

Sepideh Ramzi, Mohammad Ali Besharat (2010) The impact of hardiness on sport achievement landmental health. To examine the impact of hardiness on sport achievement and mental health in sample ofathletes, 74 students (44 males, 30 females) were included in this study. All participants compl~tedHardiness Scale (HS) and Mental Health Inventory (MHI). To measure sport achievement, athletes' coachesrated the Sport Achievement Scale (SAS). Hardiness was positively associated with sport achievement andpsychological well-being. A simple negative correlation was found between hardiness and psychologicaldistress, but the correlation was not statistically significant. Hardiness is supposed to increase levels of sportachievement and psychological well-being through feeling of commitment, control, challenge, and copingskills. . 1

Pascal M. Gygax, Pascal Wagner-Egger, Ben Parris, Roland Seiler, Clude-Alain Hauert (June 2q08)A psycholinguistic Investigation of Football Players' Mental Representation of Game Situation: DpesExpertise Count? In order to progress through a competitive sporting event, athletes need to form mentalrepresentations of the situations they encounter. In this paper, we present three experiments exploring[themental representations of football players when presented with written material describing footballg~mesituations. Experiment 1.assessed off-line processing by haVing players of different levels generate writtenfootball scripts. The results predominantly showed that players of lower expertise were less "other-oriented"and included more emotional elements in their mental. representation. Experiments 2a and 2b furtherexplored these differences. Using an on-line measure, a reading-time paradigm, we showed that (irstdivision players-mental representation more. easily included "other" and less readily inCluded emotions, Iasopposed to both national League and Fifth DIVISionlayers. Although Fifth DIVision and National League weresimilar, different cognitive processes. may underlie the construction of the players-mental representation. I

. Introduction:In previous years, fitness was commonly defined as the capacity to carry out the day's activitieswithout undue fatigue. However, as automation increased leisure time, changes in lifestyles following'the industrial revolution.rendered this definition-insufficient. These days, physiCal fitness is considereda .measure of the bbody's ability to function efficiently and effectively in work and leisure activities, tobe healthy, to resist hypo kinetic diseases,.and to meetemergency situation.

Components of physical fitness .' • .The president's Council on physical Fitness and Sports- a study group sponsored by the Governmentof the United States - decline s to offer a simple definition of physical fitness. Accordingly, a general-purpose physical fitness program must address the following essentials: 'Cardiovascular Fitness,Flexibility Training; Strength Training, Muscular Endurance, Body Compositionetc .Specific fitness .Specific or task-oriented fitness is a person's ability to 'perform in a specific activity with a"reasonableefficiency: for example: for example, sports or military service. Specific training preparlls athletes to .Perform well in their sports.

Examples are:• 400m sprint - ina sprint the athlete must be trained to work anaerobically. throughout the

race.• Marathon - in this case 'the athlete must be trained .to work aerobically and their endurance

must be built-up to maximum.• Many fire fighers and police officers undergo regular Fitness .testing to determine .if they are

capable of the physically demanding task required of the job. I

• Members of the United Slate Army and Army National Guard must be able to P<;lSS the Armyphysical fitness Test (APFT).'
