***Have you heard your child read today? We encourage all students to
practise their reading at home about 5 nights per week. Therefore, by now,
most students should have read at least between 40-45 nights. Well done if
you have kept up!
***We can all work together to
rid the community of any chance
of Head Lice. Let’s check our
heads once per week!***
Thursday 29th March (tomorrow) is the last day of the term. All students
will be dismissed from school at 1:30 p.m. The students will only require a
morning play lunch as they can have their lunch once they are home that day.
We will finish off the term with a 1:10 p.m. assembly which all parents are
invited to attend. We have some awards to hand out, some presentations and
some performances for assembly. Please come along.
It will be an Out of Uniform Day on this day as it always is on the last day of
term.
There will not be any afternoon school buses available for our children on the
last day of term. Good luck to all students and their families during the term
break!
* The first day of Term 2 is Monday 16th April, 2018.*
We wish all of our families a safe, enjoyable and restful break and we look
forward to seeing everyone return to school on Monday 16th of April for the
start of Term 2. Happy Easter!
Please return all tickets to the
office by tomorrow morning at
the latest. Thank you to families
who have donated prizes and/or
bought tickets. The raffle will be
drawn at Thursday’s afternoon’s
assembly (tomorrow).
Good luck everyone!

Happy Birthday to Braiden Hodges, Chloe
Klemm, Lucy Sullivan, Izabella Meiselbach, Kieran
Gibbons, Muhammad Shah, Lilah Blaxland, Owen
Brown, Flynn Mackie, Eva Naunton, Rohanna
Murphy, Dante Capes, Jake Eastwood and Daniel
Tuohill who are all having their birthdays this week or
over the holidays. On behalf of the Puckapunyal Primary
School Community, we wish them all a very Happy
Birthday!
Easter Raffle fundraiser: Thanks to everyone who has
supported this fundraiser. If you haven’t already done
so, please hand in tickets, money and any donations by
9am tomorrow. Winners drawn at assembly tomorrow
– good luck!
Sports for Schools: We have 17510 vouchers! This
promotion finishes on April 3rd, so make sure we have
all your vouchers early next term. Thanks so much!!
Healthy breakfast!: Eat breakfast! Breakfast is vitally
important to start the day well. It gets the metabolism
going and helps prevent a slump in concentration during
the late morning hours. Studies also show that those
who eat a healthy breakfast eat less junk food later in
the day and have a lower intake of saturated fat and a
higher intake of essential nutrients and dietary fibre for
the whole day. So let’s make sure that all our students
have eaten breakfast before they come to school. They
will all benefit from it.
Enjoy the holidays everyone! Stay safe, rest up and
have a great time!
Have a terrific break! Sue Ranger, DSTA.

**REMINDER- Pucka News is a growing interest in the school and our community. You can
see each episode live at our school assemblies at 9am on Monday mornings. Everyone is
encouraged to come along and watch each episode. If you are unable to attend, you can follow
Pucka News by watching each episode on our Facebook page. **
No Lunch Orders this week due to the early finish. Canteen lunch orders for students will begin again on
Friday 27th April (second week of Term 2). The menu for Term 2 is attached to the back of this newsletter.
Anzac Day is on Wednesday the 25th of April
(during 2nd week of Term 2). We hope that all families
enjoy the day. On Tuesday 24th April, at a special 9am
morning assembly, we will have a commemoration to
pay respect to the ANZACs. Some of our senior
students will be conducting the commemoration. There
will also be performances from our school choir. We
encourage students to bring wreaths to school and any
child in cubs, scouts, guides, etc, can wear their
uniforms for the commemoration. All parents are
welcome to attend our commemoration. It will be held
in the school’s PC Centre.
Our school choir will also be attending a Puckapunyal
Dawn service at the School of Armour (in front of the
tank museum) on ANZAC Day. We will be performing
2 songs at 5:45 a.m. We would encourage all school
community members to attend the service.
At both ANZAC commemorations, our school captains
will be laying wreaths on behalf of the school.
Ms O’Connor has begun choir rehearsals for the Dawn
Service.
The Years 2-6 students in the choir have been
practising during some lunch eating times.
Thank you to all of the wonderful families and staff who
attended the School Working Bee on the weekend.
We were able to get many necessary jobs completed!
We are always grateful for the help!

At assembly this week Resilience was announced as our School Value of the week. That means teachers
are looking for students who are demonstrating ‘Resilience’ to be eligible for the Student of the Week
award. We encourage parents to talk to their students about our values throughout the year.
What is Resilience? Year 5 student, Tessa Thompson read out the meaning of Resilience. Well done,
Tessa!
‘Resilience is the ability to recover quickly from difficulties. Being resilient is when we bounce back from
disappointments, work through challenges and overcome obstacles.’
Every Day Counts! Please don’t forget –
going to school every day is the single
most important part of your child’s
education. Students learn new things at
school every day. Missing school puts
them behind. We all want our students to
get a great education. The building
blocks for a great education begin with
students coming to school each and every
day.
Rory Kennedy and Ned
Kendell once again, would
like to strongly remind us
about saving those Coles
‘Sports for Schools’ dockets!
Each week at assembly, SRC representatives remind our
students of a few important school rules. This week, SRC
representatives, Dakota McBride and Matilda Turner
reminded our students of the ‘Ga Ga’ rules:
- There must always be an umpire. The umpire’s
decision must be obeyed without any arguments.
- Only the grades that have been timetabled on for the
week can play Ga ga.
- You can only hit the ball once, unless there are only
two players in the court.
- Only when there are two players left can the other
players lean over and tap the ball.
- No ‘grabs.’
- Always be honest.
On Thursday 26th April our FO’M, FO’C and FR
students will be involved in the ‘Adopt a
Granny’ Day program. For many years Di
Grant has been visiting our school bringing some
grandparents from Seymour. The idea has been to
run some fun activities involving a particular year
level of Pucka kids. This is because many of their
grandparents do not live nearby. It has been a fun
tradition and it’s the turn for Rooms 6, 8 and some
10 kids this year! From 9am until lunchtime the
visitors will be involved with our students. Any of
our grandparents who would like to attend the day
can also come and join in with the kids.
Thanks, Di!

Each week in the newsletter, we will give families a summary of the Teaching/Learning Focus for the week.
That can help families by: being aware of what classrooms are covering; with discussion topics at the dinner table when
discussing school (eg. ‘How are you going with addition in Numeracy this week?’); helping their children study at home,
etc. Parents have indicated that this information would be very useful. We also ask families to be aware that schools are
very busy places and events can be unpredictable at times. We therefore must remain flexible. That means, we can plan to
cover certain topics at particular times and have to change them according to arising needs.
Junior School – Preps/Foundation Rooms 6, 8 & 10 Literacy: We are looking at the letters ‘e and b’. We are learning the difference between a letter and a word. We are also
looking at capital letters and full stops.
Numeracy: We are learning about the numbers 7 and 8. We are looking at 2D shapes.
Junior School – Year 1s Rooms 3, 4 & 10 Literacy: .We are revising the letters e and b. We are looking at recounts and nouns.

on persuasive writing.
Numeracy: We are working on addition and subtraction skills. We are continuing to practise skip counting by 2’s, 5’s and
10’s and learning how to tally.
Middle School Years 3/4 Rooms 9, 11, 12 & 13 Literacy: This week we will be focusing on persuasive writing and the VCOP components.
Numeracy: We will also be working on the four processes, as well as chance and data in Numeracy.
Senior School Years 5/6 Rooms 1&2 Literacy: This week we will be focusing on persuasive writing and the VCOP components.
Numeracy: We will also be working on the four processes and fractions, as well as chance and probability in Numeracy.
Today the Pucka firemen visited our school. They taught us to get down
low and go, go, go. Then they told us to cut the door with the cutter. Then
they showed us the rear of the firetruck. They had 2 firetrucks and then they
showed us the hose. By Bailey Armstrong 1/2I
Today we saw the fire brigade and the firemen taught us about fire danger.
They squirted the hose. They had a fire suit. They had a helmet.
By Evie Clarke 1/2I
Today the Pucka firemen visited our school. They had fire suits, helmets
and breathing masks. I liked the fire danger board and the fire blanket.
By Harvey Birks 1/2I
Today the Pucka firemen visited our school. They showed us 2 firetrucks
and a suit and a hose and a helmet and a fire danger board and a breathing
mask. They had fire lights too. They didn’t show us the fire blanket when
they squirted the hose and we didn’t get to hear the fire sound.

Our Year 5/6 students enjoyed their excursion to the Australian Grand Prix last week. What did a
couple of them think?
On Thursday we went to the Grand Prix. We travelled there on a bus and I was really late...oops. When we
got to Melbourne we had to walk about 2km to get to the track. I was in Mrs Hartland group. At the Grand
Prix we saw a lot of cars. We took a photo with a Ferrari and I was laying rite in front of it. We also saw
parkour people, they were amazing! They did flips, jumps and all sorts of other cool things. I got a toy plane
and I play with every day. It can actually fly in the sky it’s fun to play with.
By Chase Riegel 5/6H
On the 22nd of March the two grade 5/6 classes, (5/6 H and 5/6 D) went to The Grand Prix. We were split
into groups, and I was in Mrs A-W’s group. When we got there we had to get our bags checked, then we
started to split up into our groups in my group was Cally, Mackenzy, Saskia, Jasmine, Bella, Henry, Zac,
Brendon, Aaron and me. For the Grand Prix I decorated my own ear muffs to wear when it got loud.
After a while, we were waiting for the mobile circus to start, but they weren’t ready. So we went to go see
the stuntmen preform. They were really cool, one of the stuntmen competed in last year's Ninja Warrior. I
wish we could bring a camera, so I could take a selfie with him. When we were walking back to the bus Mrs
Hartland noticed that she was missing her WEDDING RING, so we all started to look for it. Mr Warne
said whoever finds the ring gets 10 raffle tickets, nobody found the ring. Then Mr Warne said whoever finds
the ring gets 100 raffle tickets, but still nobody found it so everyone went back to the bus. But not Cally,
Mrs Hartland and I, we stayed back to look in more places it could be.
But…we couldn’t find it. So we went back to the bus too. The day was great beside Mrs Hartland losing her
wedding ring.

Dear Parents,
Recently, the Puckapunyal Primary School applied for a Term 2 Sporting Schools Grant from the
Federal Government. We were successful and will soon receive the grant.
That means, in Term 2 the Puckapunyal Primary School is offering an opportunity for students to
participate in some Before School Sport.
To apply for the grant we had to choose different sports to be the themes of the sessions – for Term 2 the
sports are:
Tuesdays - Basketball at school for Foundation to Year 6 students.
Wednesdays - Cycling at school (using Sanananda Rd) for Years 3-6 students. This activity is a great
opportunity for students who want to enter the Team Triathlon in early August or practise their bike
riding skills for the Bike Education Program in Term 2.
Thursdays - Tennis at school for Foundation to Year 6 students.
Beginning Week 2 of Term 2. Any student in the year levels that match the activity can attend. There is no cost. Class teachers and
other staff will be there to meet the students, supervise them and give them an opportunity to participate.
Please see the timetable on page 10. To participate in any of the sessions, we must have a return slip
before the date of the intended session. Families can pick and choose optimal dates. Return slips will be
available at the front of the school office and on our school website. Please do not hesitate to contact the
school for any more information.
Yours sincerely,
Kevin Warne
